Leah Ruth's actions
Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG 14, 15
Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

I will try a new vegan or vegetarian recipe and share how it turns out on the Ecochallenge feed, or with family and friends.

Basic Needs & Security
Commit to Sustainable Fashion
As per a report released by Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2018, the textile industry generates more greenhouse gas emissions as compared to aviation and international shipping combined. I commit to sustainable fashion by educating myself about clothing brand's production process and supporting brands that value ethical clothing; creating a capsule wardrobe; shopping secondhand clothes; buying only clothes that I need; and advocating sustainable fashion consumption.
Education & Livelihood
Research Impact Investing
SDG 8
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing or my current investment portfolio to determine if they align with my values.
Climate & Ecosystems
Plant a Tree
SDG 15
On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 2 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Climate & Ecosystems
TAKE PICTURES AND SHARE ON LINKEDIN
I will take at least one photograph that shows how sustainability / the energy transition already shows up in my daily life (e.g., electric vehicles, paper packaging…), and I will post it on LinkedIn with the hashtags #EarthMonthEcochallenge #EarthMonthAtEmerson.
