Matteo's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Vehicle Idling
Idling cars wastes fuel, contributes to climate change, and pollutes the air in our communities. I will turn off my engine when waiting in my car to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions.
Community and Connection
Become a Sustainability Aficionado or Invite a Colleague!
Become a Sustainability Aficionado or invite one of your colleagues to join if you're already tuned into the program.
Community and Connection
Join your local Green Team or participate in an Earth Month activity organized by them
Get involved! Join your local Green Team to connect and work on local sustainability initiatives. Or, participate in one of the many Earth Month activities they've organized.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn about our new Sustainability Pathways initiative
Learn about our new Sustainability Pathways initiative and implement 1 action under each of the pillars from the most appropriate persona.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Learn About Water Justice
Access to clean water is a basic right, yet not everyone has it. I will spend 5 minutes learning about water justice issues and who is affected.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Wildlife
Protect Pollinators with a Plant or Mini-Habitat
Pollinators need a little help from their friends like us! I will take 3 steps to protect pollinators, such as planting a pollinator-friendly plant, installing a pollinator hotel, or by leaving leaf litter for pollinators to call home.
Wildlife
Learn to be a Responsible Tourist
Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 20 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.
Sustainable Innovation
Take the Green Pill Trainings on Emerson Learn
Learn about sustainability by taking two Green Pill modules on Emerson Learn. Choose the topics that appeal to you most!
Land, Water, and Air
Produce No Waste for a Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.

Great month! Great Ecochallenge 2025! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat water justice issues did you learn about, and who is most affected in your community? How can you contribute to creating equitable access to clean water in your area?
Matteo De Giuseppe 4/02/2025 7:29 AMIssues related to safe water access and social justice are not limited to the countries of the developing world, however. Around the globe, it has often been historically-oppressed populations who have bared the brunt of damage related to inadequate water supply systems. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did being mindful of vehicle idling change your perspective on fuel consumption and air quality? What other transportation habits can you adopt to reduce your environmental impact?

- 17-DAY STREAK
Unnecessary idling also contributes to increased fuel consumption, which means that you need to refuel more often and therefore spend more money on petrol or diesel. Avoiding unnecessary idling is a simple and effective measure to reduce air pollution, save fuel and protect the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?

- 17-DAY STREAK
Reducing the amount of time you are in the shower can save gallons of water. The average 10-minute shower uses about 18 gallons of water! Taking shorter, and colder showers can save both water and energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?

- 17-DAY STREAK
In terms of water, dishwashers are now much more efficient, and when used to wash a full 12 place setting, use three or four times less water than washing the same amount by hand.
