Economy & Communities
Analyze Your Utility Bills
SDG 7
I spend 60 minutes analyzing my recent utility bills, which might include electricity, gas, or water to see what my current usage is and determine if I can reduce my energy and water use.
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG 8
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily breaks during work days to practice work-life balance.
Basic Needs & Security
Know Your Produce
SDG 2
I will become a savvy produce shopper when buying organic and non-organic items.
Basic Needs & Security
Volunteer in My Community
SDG 1
I will volunteer 3 hours in my community.
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 30 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG 14, 15
Each day, I will spend 20 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Climate & Ecosystems
Drive Less
SDG 13
To reduce CO2 emissions each day, I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Climate & Ecosystems
Plant a Tree
SDG 15
On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 1 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.

Jamie Damato 4/21/2023 10:42 AMTrying to decide how I'd like to spend Earth Day this year. I think I might start the day exploring some of my area's many natural preserves/parks. Then maybe head out to a local garden center and spend some hours working on my garden and yard. What is everyone else doing? -
Jamie Damato 4/14/2023 11:41 AMThe unseasonably warm week we have had up hear in New England has really kick-started my spring yard plans. It just reminded me of all the beauty that nature has to offer, if you take the time to care for and nurture it. Planning to hit up some garden centers this weekend to look at what tree I'd like to plant in my yard for one of my actions. Definitely needs to be a native variety, but thinking something that will not only be pleasant to look at, but also provides some kind of benefit to the area as well. Can't wait! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Plant a TreeHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Jamie Damato 4/11/2023 12:14 PMKnowing how valuable a resource trees are, not only to humans (lumber, paper, energy conservation, etc.), but to our Earth's ecosystem, it gives me a sense of purpose to be able to plant one, two, three trees. Not only am I helping nurture nature by putting trees back in the ground, but also enhancing the beauty that surrounds me with new native species.-
Lisa Doherty 4/17/2023 5:34 AMI agree Jamie, one of my goals for this challenge is to plant a tree. It is amazing how much good can come from this type of action.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Jamie Damato 4/05/2023 2:54 PMa breakdown of human socialization and interactions; a severe impact on overall health and wellbeing; missing out on the beauty of nature and being unable to appreciate our precious resources, and understand why they are so in need of preservation and conservation. -
Jamie Damato 4/05/2023 2:52 PMI was at the transfer station today and saw one of my biggest recycling pet peeves...an used pizza box. Why is it that no one ever seems to know that you can't put pizza boxes (w/ all those greasy oils) in with other cardboard recycling? What can we do to get the message across? Small actions, big impact.-
ANGELA STEWART 4/07/2023 9:10 AMActually, I recently did research on this issue because a lot of places will take used pizza boxes. We just got a Dominos in my town and they specifically have a link and a indication that their boxes are recyclable. recycling.dominos.com
