Share My Why

Share My Why

I will share my Ecochallenge story and why I'm taking action for the planet — and earn 15 points!

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Empowering the Next Generation

Enjoy the Environment with Youth

Experiencing nature together builds appreciation and connection. I will spend 90 minutes enjoying an outdoor activity with a young person, such as hiking, visiting a park or nature center, or exploring a trail.

COMPLETED 7
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Join a Cleanup Effort

Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 2 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health and Well-Being

Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 28
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper Products

Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. I will learn about certification labels and buy wood and paper products certified as sustainable or recycled to protect forests and reduce environmental harm.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Wildlife

Remove Invasive Species

Removing invasive species (species that are not naturally found in my area and can outcompete native plants) can help beautify nature around me and protect local biodiversity. I will learn about invasive plants in my area and, if possible, support or participate in at least one effort to beautify nature near me by removing invasive species.

COMPLETED 0
DAILY ACTIONS

Community and Connection

Host a Gathering

Bringing people together helps strengthen bonds. I will organize and host a gathering, such as a potluck, coffee meet up, or shared meal, for friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to foster connection and community spirit.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Community and Connection

Explore the Feed and Connect with Others

I will spend 5 minutes reading the Ecochallenge feed each day and giving high fives or commenting on posts by people who I don't know, but whose content inspires or interests me.

I join the EcoChallenge each year to learn and help guide my efforts to be more intentional about my everyday choices that impact the planet. I love how the dashboard shows how small steps, especially when taken together, really do add up.

I chose actions that push me to be more mindful— like to get outside, making sustainable purchases, and learning more about environmental issues.

Seeing others share their wins motivates me, Let’s keep supporting each other and building habits that stick—one small step at a time.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land, Water, and Air
What benefits do forests offer you personally? What certifications or labels will you look for when purchasing wood and paper products, and why?

We travel national parks often. Hiking in the forests has always given me a sense of connection helps me slow down and recharge. I appreciate how trees clean our air, support wildlife, and help fight climate change. Being outside is a reminder of how much we rely on nature, even when we don’t always see it.

Embarrassingly, I had to research labels to look for When buying wood or paper products, I will look for certifications like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or Rainforest Alliance Certified in the future!

Sunday, we picked 1,000 pounds of cucumbers that were left behind by reapers because they were too big, too small, or misshaped. These perfectly good cucumbers are now headed to the local food bank to help those in need. It was an AWESOME experience and a great reminder that every little effort counts in reducing food waste and supporting our community! If interested, there may be a gleaning event near you! Took a walk with my daughter by the house and sat for a few minutes and observed fire ants eat a small worm and trying to answer a bunch of questions I really did not have the answer to. LOL :)

I joined the eco challenge again this year to build more consistency and intention into my daily routine. I chose actions that get me outside which I sometimes forget to do being behind a computer all day!!

Love the messages of encouragement - Let’s keep showing up for each other!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I observe and appreciate the calmness of the early morning, birds chirping and cooler weather. It makes me feel relaxed and clears the mind to start the day.
