Reflection QuestionHealth & Equity Practice MindfulnessWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
B Cooper 4/28/2022 12:01 PMI like to use my daily commute to decompress, reflect on the day, gather my thoughts, and ponder any observations. It helps me close the chapter at work complete any thoughts from the day before coming home and engaging with my family. -
Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Practice A Sharing EconomyWhat benefits does the sharing economy offer to you and others? If you are a little shy to try, what could be a first step for you?
B Cooper 4/28/2022 7:36 AMGoing through the house and finding things we no longer use that could be of use to others and donating them. This de-clutters our house, puts items to good use, and eliminates the need for someone to purchase a new item. -
Reflection QuestionHealth & Equity Communicate ConstructivelyWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
B Cooper 4/26/2022 12:12 PMSeeing things from another's point of view is a huge start. This is a skill I've built over time, but seeking to improve should never end as you meet others with different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences.
What might the other person be looking to get out of a conversation or interaction? If you trust their motives, how are you helping them get what they want (just as you want them to help you get what you want)? This is where I've found the most constructive interactions are mutually beneficial ones. -
Reflection QuestionEconomy & Communities Create A Readiness PlanWhat was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?
B Cooper 4/22/2022 12:30 PMCreating a readiness plan for severe weather created a lot of peace-of-mind. We were able to think of things we probably wouldn't have in the moment. We also found it quite easy to find things we could store in our basement permanently that would come in handy during a tornado warning (especially with our toddler) in the middle of the night. -
Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
B Cooper 4/22/2022 12:26 PMI had no idea how much your "virtual water consumption" far outweighs what is used in your household. From the products we purchase to the foods we eat, it seems like I can make a much bigger impact on my water usage by tweaking my meals instead of my showers. -
Reflection QuestionHealth & Equity Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
B Cooper 4/22/2022 12:20 PMIt's important to keep a connection to the world around you. When staying inside and on screens, you're viewing a pre-digested version of the world through the filtered, tailored, and biased lens of others. Trust your own lens and get an unfiltered view of the world from time-to-time, it will help you draw your own conclusions. -
Reflection QuestionClimate & Ecosystems Reduce Single-Use PlasticsWhat plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?
B Cooper 4/22/2022 12:15 PMWhen traveling I have a habit of using plastic bottles a lot while trying to stay hydrated (hotels, airports, conferences). During my 4-day trip this week, I reused the plastic bottle I got in the airport for all 4 days, refilling at water stations. Refilled it probably 15 times, easy and simple. -
B Cooper 3/24/2022 7:19 AMOur team is already growing, way to spread the word! Keep in mind as you sign up for actions that you won't start accruing points until the event starts on April 1st.
