Log Volunteer Hours
Log your Ecochallenge-related Volunteer Hour in Good Works. If using VTO, please also request time in Workday. Email Anjelica if you have questions ([email protected]). P.S. In celebration of Arch's 25th anniversary, employees that record at least 7.5 volunteer hours will earn a $25 incentive to support the community.
Work and Organizations
Practice Resource Sharing
Sharing strengthens resilience. I will take part in 3 acts of resource-sharing in my organization or with another organization, such as sharing tools, staff skills, or swapping knowledge, to help reduce waste and build collaboration. I will share what I did in the feed to inspire others!
Water
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Personal
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Soil and Food
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 1 meatless meals meals each day.
Personal
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Community
Share Information about Local Resources
Knowledge of local resources helps communities thrive. I will learn about local resources, especially mutual aid groups, and share them with others on social media, in conversations, or in other ways that help spread the word.
Community
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 2 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityWhat resources did you discover, and how do you think they can benefit your community? How did sharing this information make you feel more connected to your community’s needs and opportunities?
Suzanne Conroy-Bray 4/27/2026 7:38 AMThis month, I shared information for nearby recycling events for e-waste, textiles, etc. in my local "Buy Nothing" Facebook group. -

If anyone is looking for an Earth Month–themed documentary, Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy on Netflix was interesting, particularly the content on issues with electronics recycling and recycling guidance on packaging. They placed trackers in recycled electronics to see whether they were actually recycled as intended. The documentary calls out several forms of greenwashing and the fact that the motive for the lack of transparency/misleading guidance is often that if consumers knew some of these items were not truly recyclable, it may significantly impact their buying behavior.-
