Yvette's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 16 hours in my community.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Climate + Air
Online Energy Audit
Energy use and waste is often invisible. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Freshwater + Oceans
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 05 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Yvette Collins 4/30/2024 10:06 AMI began volunteering at our local Food Bank years ago and it has become apart of my monthly and quarterly volunteer service. It has been Awesome opportunity to give back. And it makes a huge difference in the lives of many families. Arch is a wonderful Community Partner providing 16 hours our VTO to the employees to give back in the way that they choose. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Declutter My Home Without the LandfillHow did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?
Yvette Collins 4/30/2024 10:01 AMIt feels so liberating to declutter our home. There are so many things that we have accumulated over time. Donating to charity is a boast and knowing that the item can be reused and given new life, instead of ending up in a landfill is priceless. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Yvette Collins 4/30/2024 9:59 AMIt is difficult to remember to grab the reusable bags from your car when shopping. Like most people we are in a rush to grab some items at the store. But it is important to remember how important our conservation footprint is. That impacts me greatly and causes me to remember to use the reusable bags in the car. -
Yvette Collins 4/29/2024 5:27 PMWe had a Yard Sale in our community this weekend. It was a great opportunity to declutter our home and offer it to others who could use some of our items. Some items also went to charity. -
Yvette Collins 4/26/2024 7:47 AMHappy Earth Month! This is always a wonderful and enjoyable site to see annually. We have huge Fire Seasons in California, so our community brings in Goats to clear out dry brush to help prevent wildfires. It is always a welcomed site to the neighborhood and the kids love to watch them.-

Yvette Collins 4/23/2024 3:43 PMI have been doing some spring cleaning. I found a lot of clothes and electronics that we are preparing for a Yard Sale next week and donations to our local goodwill. This will allow the products to be reused and prevent going to landfills. -
Yvette Collins 4/22/2024 10:09 AMUse a Reusable thermoset daily for water to prevent usage of plastic bottles. -
Yvette Collins 4/01/2024 9:55 AMThis is the first day and I am SUPER Excited to focus in on what I can do to make a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Yvette Collins 4/01/2024 9:54 AMI learned from researching a bit, The number of plastic bottles in the sea is unknown, but over 250 billion were not recycled. It takes the ocean 450 years to break down the plastic. I use a reusable water thermos and it makes me feel so much better about my little part in helping the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Weekly Meal PlanningHow did it feel to plan out your meals and stick to them in an effort to reduce food waste?
Yvette Collins 4/01/2024 9:50 AMIt feels awesome to plan and prepare me and my families meals. It saves food waste, as we can use leftovers as well. And it saves money.
