I bought a hungry person a sandwich because they couldn't afford one. I asked what kind of sandwich they wanted. I don't think this person has been asked what they wanted lately. It was a humbling experience.

An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?

We bought a large box of strawberries from Costco. After washing the berries and putting them in the fridge, it appears mold grows after just a day or two! i cut off the moldly parts, but a lot of strawberries were wasted. then i read an article that says we shouldn't eat moldy produce at all - throw away the whole fruit. too late!
if i had planned ahead to make smoothies or frozen strawberry pops the day i brought home the berries, i could've used all the berries.

thoroughly dry the strawberries before you store them, and store them in a container lined with a towel to absorb moisture while in the fridge. The strawberries will last longer.

Hi Garian! I've noticed that my produce stays fresh for longer if I rinse it off right before eating rather than washing the whole container at once. Maybe extra water gets trapped in the container and leads to mold forming faster when it all gets washed at once?
