Nadine's actions

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Save the Bees

Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Explore My Area

When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Action Track: Community

Pick Up the Phone

I will gather a group of friends, family, neighbors or colleagues to make 1 phone calls to public officials or companies to advocate for planet-friendly policies.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Biodiversity and Me

I will spend at least 15 minutes each day researching what biodiversity is, how biodiversity positively impacts our world, and how the loss of biodiversity harms it. I will share what I learn on the feed.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Buy a ton more Compost bags for my kitchen counter receptacle

Just saw Costco has a large pack of these compost bags that I've been using for years. Now that I ordered them, I can save $ and the planet by no longer ordering from Amzn every other month. This reduces packaging, and delivery GHG emissions. Now I have more than a year's supply!

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Present to my 25 person work team NYC Policy changes that support Climate change management

Research, prepare, present to my work team NYC Policy changes that support Climate change management in the building environment. Show them how our work could help our city and our planet.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate + Air

Choose Renewable Energy

Renewable energy options are becoming more widespread and accessible. Not only are they good for the planet, they can help save money as well. I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option. If my utility does not offer one, I will contact them to advocate for this option in the future.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning

Understanding cleaning product ingredients and their effect on water and biodiversity is helpful to our consumer choices. I will spend 30 minutes learning about how cleaning products affect our water and try making my own cleaning products to reduce pollutants.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

Compost Food Waste

Food in the landfill is one of the main sources of greenhouse gasses. I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill per day by composting my food.

It's been a great reminder of what I value and new ways I could do more. Every year I do this, is validating and eye opening. This year I'll be presenting at the WSP NYC Office highlights of the Climate Management Act. This policy will help this city and hopefully our country reduce GHGs.

Today I learned about my neighborhood cesspools. How much more can we all do to stock our homes with green products whenever possible? Did you know Target makes it easy with affordable green Everspring product in nicely designed containers?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land + Forests Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

What if everyone understood how easy it is to contaminate the recycling buckets with one rouge plastic spoon, piece of paper or banana peel?
Would they have an aha moment that they've been undermining all the good work they thought they were achieving along with everyone else?

Please be a little more conscientious with your actions, so together we can all really make a difference.
