Tony's actions
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Climate + Air
Use Muscle Power
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Action Track: Community
Research water conservation options
We live on a ranch with well water. I will look into water conservation, including water reclamation and how to effectively use it here.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 5 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 2 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Tony Chimento 4/30/2024 8:07 AMI have appreciated reading about the thoughts and actions of others. Inspiring and encouraging. -
Tony Chimento 4/30/2024 8:04 AMLast day, but really the first. I have enjoyed thinking more about conservation and saving precious resources. -
Tony Chimento 4/29/2024 7:23 AMIn the process of converting all outdoor lighting to solar as much as is possible. Lots of options. -
Tony Chimento 4/25/2024 11:21 AMFor water conservation, I started thinking more purposefully about getting out of the shower as fast as possible. Even a minute less can save gallons a week.-
Anna Marie Angeles 4/25/2024 11:26 AMyeah that's great!

Tony Chimento 4/24/2024 6:39 AMI am in the process of changing out all the light bulbs in our closets to motion sensor. That helps make sure I never leave a light on in the closet. -
Tony Chimento 4/24/2024 6:38 AMI discovered that our washing machine has a 35 minute wash time instead of the 55 minutes. We have shifted to that and using cold water when possible to minimize heat expense. We also only do laundry twice a week. That cuts down on the random usage and waste. -
Tony Chimento 4/24/2024 6:35 AMThe plastic straws thing is tough. I don't like the paper straws at all. So my solution is to just not use a straw. That also then reduces the need for the plastic lid. I've also been skipping the plastic forks, knives if I am taking it home. -
Tony Chimento 4/23/2024 8:14 AMOur city has rain barrels on sale. We bought one to help with watering our garden. It is not super convenient but it certainly cuts down on water usage. We are also looking at seeding in some buffalo grass which is native to the harsh Texas summers. -
Tony Chimento 4/18/2024 12:58 PMI am finding little ways to make a difference. Not turning on a light. Using reusable cups instead of disposable bottles. Energy efficient lighting. Solar powered chargers. Consolidating trips out. Zeroscaping. Drought resistant plants.-
Valeria Giddings 4/19/2024 1:26 PMSmall changes, big impact! That's the way to do this!

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Tony Chimento 4/16/2024 8:27 AMBeing on large acreage, we have lots of plastic blowing from property to property. I try to pick that up. If not, it will eventually end up in a pond or a creek.
