COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Reduce Food Waste

Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.

COMPLETED 30
DAILY ACTIONS

Wildlife

Plant (or Adopt) a Plant

Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Donate to Support Wildlife

There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Audit Toxic Products in my Home

Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 3 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Wildlife

Learn to be a Responsible Tourist

Being a responsible tourist means not disturbing wildlife and choosing eco-friendly tour operators and destinations that prioritize wildlife conservation and respect animal welfare. I will spend 5 minutes researching ways to travel responsibly to ensure my adventures support, rather than harm, wildlife and their habitats.

COMPLETED

Planting something is such a good feeling, it’s calming, rewarding and kind of magical to watch something grow because of your care. Whether it's putting seeds into soil or tending a tiny sprout, it brings a sense of care, patience, and hope for the future.
In my case, I adopted a 5 years old Southern Ash in Aragon Spain, because I love bringing life outdoors. 🌳

Travel opens our eyes to the beauty of the natural world, but if we're not careful, it can also harm the very wildlife we’re excited to see. From habitat destruction to animal stress and exploitation, tourism can take a serious toll on ecosystems. The good news? We can make choices that help protect wildlife rather than hurt it.
For starters, skip attractions that use animals for entertainment, like elephant rides or captive dolphin shows. These often involve cruel training methods and poor living conditions. Instead, support ethical wildlife experiences—think nature reserves, guided safaris, or bird-watching tours that follow strict guidelines.
Eco-friendly lodges, conservation-focused tour operators, and local guides not only reduce your footprint but often contribute directly to protecting the areas you’re visiting. Staying on designated trails, keeping a respectful distance from animals, and leaving no trace all go a long way.
Our travel decisions matter. When we choose to explore the world with care, we show that tourism can be a force for conservation—not destruction.

I support solar in low income communities because it helps people save money, breathe cleaner air, and get access to the same clean energy others enjoy. It’s a simple way to make things a bit more fair for everyone. These communities often bear the brunt of pollution from fossil fuels while having the least access to clean energy solutions. By providing solar power, we help reduce utility bills, improve energy security, and empower residents with sustainable technology, all while cutting carbon emissions. That’s why I donate to VoteSolar.org; they’re fighting for a 100% clean energy future that puts people’s health, well-being, and needs first.

I was particularly struck by the overwhelming presence of plastic in the kitchen, primarily used to protect or package fruits, bread, and other fresh foods. Although there has been progress in adopting recycled plastics, this approach alone is insufficient. It is imperative that we not only increase recycling efforts but also significantly reduce our overall reliance on plastic if we are to achieve meaningful environmental change.

Switching to LED bulbs actually made me feel pretty good, like I’m finally doing something simple but important to cut down my energy use. It’s such an easy change, but it feels like it adds up over time.
Other little things I could do? Probably unplug chargers when I’m not using them, be smarter about using heating and AC, and maybe switch to energy-efficient appliances when it’s time to replace the old ones. Every bit helps!
