Calculate Your Carbon Impact

SDG 13

I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening

SDG 14, 15

Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Basic Needs & Security

Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers

SDG 6

I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.

COMPLETED 16
DAILY ACTIONS

Basic Needs & Security

Practice A Sharing Economy

SDG 1

Each day, I will engage in a sharing economy among my family, friends, and neighbors. A sharing economy is when goods and services are shared between individuals though peer and community networks.

COMPLETED 12

I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Basic Needs & Security

Reduce Animal Product Consumption

SDG 2

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.

COMPLETED 16

I'm addict to Arte Channel which is a French-German TV channel which broadcast high quality documentaries about peace, sustainanbility best practices, environment, gender documentaries. It is available in 8 languages on Arte.TV. I encourage you all to have a look and explore more.
In parallel, I wtcged again yesterday "Jurassic Park":
    Dr. Ian Malcolm:
-"God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates Man, man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs"
    - Dr. Ellie Sattler, "Dinosaurs eat man..... Woman inherits the earth”
    Does it count :-):-) too???

Because of my project to retain rain water for outdoor and indoor use, I have to inform the City Hall: great opportuntity to advocate for a best use of water and to encourage our Mayor to publish articles within the monthly bulletin of the municipality!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water Footprint
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

I already removed the swimming pool. My project for this year is to optimize grey water use: I met with a professional to review my indoor water system and I'm waiting for quote. However, now I walked through the water footprint calculator, I have realized that the biggest impact I could have is not related to indoor / outdoor water use but to virtual water!!

Thank Educator: just sent a message to thank techo teacher from my daughter who is supporting the organisation of a travel to Scotland my daughter will be part of. He is so patient in reminding parents again and again to provide required documentation! From my side, I will support the program by welcoming my daughter's Scotish correspondent at home during 2 weeks later on this year.

Wanted to take the courses directly from the link in the web site: unsuccessfully. I started then to navigate as usual within GLC, through my world area, then my BU, to finaly fing the learning plan. Which one is great to understand Emerson objective however, these courses are totally US oriented, going in depth of EPA, OSHA, Federal, State regulations that are obviously not the same in Europe. Lucklily the long test to get the course completed (20 questions) are mainly based on common sense and take over from other safety regular training. I would also have had an overview about current situation world wide on the Industry impact on water, air, soil, which is missing as eye-opener to sustain these courses. Don't want to prevent you to take them as at the end it is a very good refresher on best practice and on Emerson self positionning in regards with environment protection, then, let's go ... boldly!
