Emma's actions
Health and Well-Being
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 20 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 60 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Sustainable Innovation
Learn about the Magic of Seaweed
Seaweed is a powerful ally for the planet. I will spend 60 minutes learning how seaweed can improve ocean health, capture carbon, support sustainable food systems, and inspire eco-friendly products.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat new insights did you gain about seaweed’s role in combating environmental challenges? Were you surprised how many products you may already be using contain seaweed?
Emma Byrne 4/27/2025 10:56 AMWhen doing some research on seaweed, I found this article stating that scientists have found a new way of using it as animal feed and an energy source. They plan on using brown seaweed as a biofuel. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you observe or experience while spending time outside, and how did it affect you? How does connecting with nature enhance your physical and mental well-being?
Emma Byrne 4/26/2025 10:39 AMToday, I went on a hike at Dinosaur Ridge in Colorado, and it was very cool to see all the footprints in the rock! Whenever I get to go hiking, it always feels so special because I miss hills and trees when I am at school.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?
Emma Byrne 4/15/2025 12:48 PMI try to be more mindful of the amount of water I use in daily life. That includes doing my dishes, laundry, and showering. I plan ahead with my dishes, ensuring they all are soaking so it takes less water to rinse before using soap in the long run. It has been a lot harder than what I initially thought it would be.-
Payton Seefeldt 4/17/2025 9:50 AMI have had trouble with the same thing, especially with my dishes, which has been a lot harder than I thought. Showering has been the easiest way to cut down on water because I normally take really long showers so just trying to cut down, but the others have been hard to cut down on. -

Emma Byrne 4/13/2025 11:58 AMI went for a run today, and whenever I work out, I feel so much better afterward, especially since the weather has been so nice outside.-
