"My goal is to influence somebody else to participate in additional actions. I think I can display good role model behavior by publicly and visibly picking up trash in the neighborhood while on walks with my dog. I hope others may notice the work that I am doing and the cleaner environment around us and hopefully feel some inspiration themselves to do a little more to clean up litter in the neighborhood."

Health and Well-Being

Declutter and Donate

Decluttering can reduce stress and benefit others. I will declutter my home and donate items I no longer need to support others in my community.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Community and Connection

Keep My Community Clean

A clean community benefits everyone. Each day I am outside, I will pick up 15 pieces of litter to keep my community clean.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Calculate My Carbon Impact

Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.

Its early in the month and I dont want to pay attention early on and then fall off the wagon. Maybe I wont log on every day, but I WILL ensure I log on at least at the beginning and end of the week to update, at the very least.

    Land, Water, and Air
How did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?

I ensured that I ran a full load in the dishwasher. Perhaps my biggest opportunity still is on running water "prewashing" items before placing them into the dishwasher. I'll read an article today to get tips on the most effective/ efficient ways to do this. I definitely still want clean dishes but reduce wastefulness!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Well-Being
How did decluttering and donating items make you feel, both emotionally and physically?

We were able to fill a 13 gallon bag with clothes unused in my Fiancées closet, approximately 15 items.
I'm slightly torn on some items for me. Not because I "dont want" to get rid of items, but more because I tend to do a lot of dirty, physical work and "ruin" clothes. I prefer to re-wear these items so I'm not "ruining" more clothes.
I think I may get a storage tote or 2 and specifically keep my "ruined" working clothes in these to help declutter my closets and get a clearer picture on what to keep and what to get rid of. Perhaps I start that this evening.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community and Connection
How did keeping your community more clean connect you more to your local area? Did picking up litter change your perspective on the cleanliness of your community?

I brought a 2.5 gallon bucket and trash grabbing tool along on my walk with my dog. I was surprised by the amount of trash that I saw while walking and paying attention to it. Perhaps its build up from a long winter where people weren't outside cleaning up their yards as much, but I intend to grab a lot more on my walks. Todays bucket was filled!
