Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Leave No Trace
I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 45 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Explore My AreaWhere did you go for your walk or hike in nature? What were the benefits of doing so?
Bailey Brooks 4/23/2024 6:08 PMI went on a walk on the Constitution Trail in Normal, IL. Walking outside helps me clear my mind. I listen to a podcast or music and feel free. I was able to detach from all of the stress in my life and take time for myself. It is always nice to breathe fresh air when walking outside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Bailey Brooks 4/06/2024 7:37 PMI was at Target today and didn't bring any of my reusable bags. Thankfully I only bought 2 items so I just carried them out.-
Janet Beach Davis 4/07/2024 3:20 PMI keep mine in the car, and when they are empty I hang them on the doorknob to remember to put them back in the car.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Bailey Brooks 4/03/2024 5:38 PMNormally every week, I buy a case of plastic water bottles. They are easy to grab for practice but I don't think I realized how much waste I am producing. This week I didn't buy any water and have been refilling my reusable water bottle 2-3 times a day.
