Heather's actions

Land, Water, and Air

Understand My Water Footprint

Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health and Well-Being

Exercise Daily

Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 1 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Wildlife

Protect Pollinators with a Plant or Mini-Habitat

Pollinators need a little help from their friends like us! I will take 2 steps to protect pollinators, such as planting a pollinator-friendly plant, installing a pollinator hotel, or by leaving leaf litter for pollinators to call home.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Land, Water, and Air

Calculate My Carbon Impact

Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Community and Connection

Explore the Feed and Connect with Others

I will spend 30 minutes reading the Ecochallenge feed each day and giving high fives or commenting on posts by people who I don't know, but whose content inspires or interests me.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Empowering the Next Generation

Learn About Indigenous Conservation Practices

Indigenous communities have stewarded ecosystems for generations through deep-rooted knowledge and connection to nature. I will spend 60 minutes exploring Indigenous conservation methods and reflecting on their role in fostering balance and equity with nature.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Land, Water, and Air

Conduct a Home Energy Audit

Reducing energy use helps protect the air and climate. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy and reduce pollution.

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Adding Learn About Indigenous Conservation Practices, we could learn alot form those that came before us and those that are still keeping these practices alive. We have become a society of convenience and need to go back to getting our hands dirty and using some elbow grease.

Went to Lowe's today and got some more chicken wire for the bottom of our garden boxes. First one is almost done, then we will spread cardboard in the bottom that we would normally burn in our burn pit. This will act as a grass and weed barrier instead of using chemicals.

Getting back into my daily yoga routine with videos from Yoga with Adrienne. With walking more I think this will help with all the aches.

Saw a post about bamboo sheets and towels. We need new towels so I am going to do a little more searching to see if I can't replace our old towels with some new bamboo ones. We are cutting up our old towels to use them as cleaning rags instead of papertowels.

Looked online at Eden Brothers for flowers that will attract pollinators. My cart is full just waiting for payday to get them and the bulbs will be shipped here in time to plant. Not sure if they will have time to bloom but next year we will definitely have a good variety for the pollinators to feed on.

Timed my shower this morning, I am down to 5 minutes and that is washing and conditioning my hair. Also time my husband's bath, see how long he runs the water. He said he doesn't fill it all the way to the top so I had to time it. The water ran for 3 minutes and he turned it off. Very proud of him.

It was too rainy to take the pups for a walk so I made myself run up and down our basement stairs. I have noticed that it I sit too long, that my hips and back start to get stiff. Not sure if its lack of movement or old age haha!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Dandelions are starting to pop up on our lawn and usually I will be out there spraying them along with the thistle with vinegar. But I read that dandelions are a favorite of bees so I am leaving them in our yard.
