Joseph's actions
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 30 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Health and Well-Being
Reduce Refined Sugar
Cutting back on refined sugar can improve energy, mood, and overall health. I will limit my intake of sugary snacks and drinks by reducing refined sugar in meals or snacks each day.
Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 1 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.
Sustainable Innovation
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.
Sustainable Innovation
Learn about Sustainable Innovation
Innovation can create a more sustainable world. I will spend 30 minutes learning about new materials, technologies, ideas, or practices that help solve environmental challenges and improve our planet's future.
Sustainable Innovation
Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials
Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Community and Connection
Offer a Skill or Service
Sharing our talents can benefit those around us. I will offer my skills or services to support my community, such as helping someone with a task, tutoring, repairing something, or volunteering my expertise.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Wildlife
Learn the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace
Leave No Trace means enjoying nature responsibly by minimizing our impact and leaving the environment as we found it, or better. I will spend 20 minutes learning about the seven core principles to minimize my impact while enjoying the outdoors.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 3 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Community and Connection
Check In with a Friend or Colleague
Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 1 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat is one way you can reduce your impact on nature the next time you spend time outdoors, and how might that action help preserve the environment for others?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 7:49 PMOne way I can reduce my impact on the environment next time I'm in nature is to not leave any trash lying around and to either not produce any waste or make sure to properly dispose of it if I do. This will help reduce the amount of plastic pollution I leave behind and benefit the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 7:41 PMIt felt good to get my hands dirty and plant this beautiful avocado tree in my yard. I'm excited to see if the fruit it grows is good or not. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 7:40 PMIt was simple. I have some bags that I put away after shopping already, so I tend to never need new ones. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat new places or experiences did you discover in your local area? How has exploring your community changed your perspective or sense of connection?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 7:30 PMI explored the gardens of my local pastoral center and a nearby park/baseball field with my dog. It let me know that there are lots of nice places all around my neighborhood that I otherwise wouldn't have known about. This makes me feel more at home in this area and connected with my local community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat skill or service did you offer, and how did it impact someone in your community? How did sharing your expertise or time help you feel more connected to others?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 7:28 PMI offered a friend some tutoring for an assignment they needed help with. they said it gave them insight that they didn't have before and allowed them to do better on the assignment. This made me feel useful as well as helpful to my peers which gives me confidence and a sense of connection. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionHow did checking in with someone strengthen your relationship or provide support? How did it feel to reach out and connect?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 7:26 PMIt allowed me to reconnect with an old friend and catch up. It felt good to spread some love and positivity with someone I otherwise would've forgotten about. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat sustainable product did you purchase, and how does it align with your values?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 3:59 PMI choose to start using a facial moisturizer that is packaged using 70% reduced plastic that is already recycled. It aligns with my values because it is less plastic that is being produced/used and more plastic that is being recycled. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat actions did you take to advocate for sustainable food packaging, and how were they received? How do you think widespread changes in food packaging could benefit the planet?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 3:57 PMI first went to various fast food restaurants and asked if they used sustainable packaging or were planning to. I then went on their website and searched for what their sustainability plans were. If there weren't any, then I decided to no longer eat at that restaurant until they switched. I also decided to order less things online and go get them myself. This cuts the cost, reduces emissions and eliminated the risk of the shipping company using unsustainable packaging. I think widespread changes in food packaging could benefit the planet while reducing carbon emissions as well as plastic pollution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat industries or sectors do you believe have the greatest potential to benefit from sustainable innovation, and how could they drive meaningful change? How do you think sustainable innovation will influence our future?
Joseph Bowen 4/28/2025 3:51 PMThe agriculture industry is one that I think could benefit greatly from sustainable innovation. I think that if we changed the way we go about farming and agriculture we could solve food crises while also helping reduce our impact on our planet. If we can innovate sustainably, we will create a brighter future for generations to come. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat product did you replace, and why was it important to you? How do you feel about making a small change for a healthier, more sustainable home?
Joseph Bowen 4/22/2025 5:56 PMI replaced my shampoo with a new product that doesn't have any of the harmful ingredients in the previous one. I hated how my hair always felt thin and floppy. I am happy that I made the switch because now I can wash my hair frequently enough to keep it clean while also feeling confident in it's look and feel.
