Jared's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Freshwater + Oceans
Smart Seafood Choices
We need to support healthy seafood populations. I will spend 30 minutes learning about sustainable seafood choices, commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean, and share what I learned on the feed.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Climate + Air
Low Carbon Diet
Carbon is emitted into the atmosphere in a variety of ways, including through the foods we eat and food we waste. I will learn about low carbon foods and replace higher carbon foods with them in my diet.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Low Carbon DietWhich high carbon foods will you eat less of, and what are some low carbon options you'll choose instead?
Jared Bouriene 4/15/2024 8:23 PMWhile I am trying to eat less meat, I am taking in more vegetables that retain water. Tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons so that I get my hydration in to also consumer less water bottles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Jared Bouriene 4/05/2024 8:26 PMFor one thing it makes it cleaner, and bot an eyesore. Picking up litter is having a responsibility to be clean, unless you leave your room a mess like outside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Use a Reusable Water BottleWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Jared Bouriene 4/05/2024 7:18 PMThat even though plastics are labeled accordingly to be recycled, they still end up in landfills due to people throwing them in trash cans. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Consume only Needs vs WantsConsuming only what we need vs. what we want can be really hard to do. What has been challenging about committing to this action for a month? What have you learned about yourself? Will you change any habits going forward?
Jared Bouriene 4/02/2024 7:29 PMCommitting to this action does raise concerns about my wants. Choosing to have a fast quick snack often or to stick to s schedule of breaks is tough! Habits to think about are having snacks at my desk to minimize my temptation to go and buy but also buy healthy snacks to have at desk.
