Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Mulching helps soil hold water and reduces runoff. I will mulch the base of trees or other plants at home, school, or in my community to improve water retention and soil health.
Take the Pre-Survey
Take the Pre-Event Survey
I’ll take a short pre-survey to share what motivated me to join — and earn 15 points! (If I already took the survey by email, I’ll just mark this action complete to get my points.)
Personal
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 30 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.
Community
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 3 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
What is resilience?
Learn About Ecological Resilience
Resilience is part of how nature works. I will spend 30 minutes learning about ecological resilience—how ecosystems adapt to disturbances and renew themselves through cycles of growth and renewal.
Action Track
Speed Reduction
Driving 65 mpg instead of 70 mph on the highway with cruise control reduces 9-10% diesel consumption, and allows 9-12% GHG, 12-20% NOx, 10-15% PM2.5 emission reductions. Field work this week is an opportunity to test this approach.
What is resilience?
Learn About Community Resilience
Communities can adapt to challenges and grow stronger together. I will spend 30 minutes learning about how communities prepare for and respond to change, and how collective action builds resilience.
Soil and Food
Grow Something to Eat
Growing food builds resilience by connecting us to the soil and reducing reliance on long supply chains. I will grow edible plants—such as herbs, vegetables, or grains—in my home, balcony, or community space, strengthening both my food security and local biodiversity.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonalHow did exercising each day impact your physical and mental resilience? What activities helped you feel stronger, more flexible, or more capable of adapting?
Pierre Bourgeade 4/08/2026 7:35 PMRiding my bike today along the Missouri river. It helps to reflect and allows me to find new ways, new paths and better ways to go farther: the beginning of resilience. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWhat is resilience? What examples of resilience in ecosystems did you learn about? How do these cycles of renewal change the way you see nature around you?
Pierre Bourgeade 4/02/2026 8:03 PMThe lodgepole pine forests in Yellowstone has 2 types of trees that ensure ecological resilience. I see that nature has resilience mechanisms however it is not enough to compensate anthropologic effects. -
Pierre Bourgeade 4/02/2026 6:08 AMI watched Artemis II launching yesterday, 4 astronauts to the moon for 10 days of adventure, very inspiring, where resilience, science, and team effort will lead the way. This is how I will see the ecochallenge this year.
