Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 1 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Land, Water, and Air
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper Products
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. I will learn about certification labels and buy wood and paper products certified as sustainable or recycled to protect forests and reduce environmental harm.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Wildlife
Learn How to Save the Bees
Bees and other pollinators are vital to ecosystems and agriculture. I will spending 30 minutes learning about local pollinators and why they are so important.
Sustainable Innovation
Learn about Regenerative Agriculture
Healthy soil, healthy planet. I will spend 5 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and how it helps restore ecosystems, improve soil health, and combat climate change.
Health and Well-Being
Declutter and Donate
Decluttering can reduce stress and benefit others. I will declutter my home and donate items I no longer need to support others in my community.
Health and Well-Being
Go Get a Check Up
Regular health check-ups help prevent problems before they start. I will schedule or attend a medical, dental, or mental health check-up to take care of my well-being.
Health and Well-Being
Prepare for Extreme Weather
Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.
Wildlife
Donate to Support Wildlife
There are many amazing projects supporting wildlife and their habitats. I will choose a project or organization to support that helps species and habitats I care about and make a donation.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Sustainable Innovation
Replace Old Bulbs with LED Bulbs
Energy-efficient lighting is a bright idea. I will replace 3 incandescent light bulbs with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 30 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 2 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Community and Connection
Explore My Area
Discovering what’s nearby fosters a deeper connection to my community. I will explore 2 new places in my area, such as parks, historical sites, or local businesses.
Community and Connection
Visit or Learn About a Culturally Significant Site Near Me
Sites of cultural and spiritual significance hold deep meaning for many communities, particularly Indigenous peoples. I will learn about or visit a site near me that is significant to the history, culture, or environment of the area. I will approach my visit with respect by researching its importance and guidelines beforehand, reflecting on how we can preserve these spaces for future generations.
Community and Connection
Swap and Share with Others
Swapping and sharing resources reduces waste and builds community bonds. I will participate in 1 swaps or sharing activities, like borrowing items, attending or hosting a swap meet, or giving away items I no longer need to support a sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Health and Well-Being
Replace a Product
Small changes can make a big difference for health and sustainability. Using what I learned from auditing ingredients in the products I use, I will replace 1 toxic or harmful products I use with safer, eco-friendly alternatives.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat was the most unexpected piece of trash that was picked up during your local cleanup effort? How does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Chad Blumeyer 4/22/2025 2:51 PMDuring my local cleanup, the most unexpected piece of trash was a "yellow rubber ducky" toy🐤 that I found near Emerson's E.P. park pavilion. It was a funny moment to think about who / how it was left there! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat benefits do forests offer you personally? What certifications or labels will you look for when purchasing wood and paper products, and why?

- 17-DAY STREAK
This weekend I purchased landscaping mulch from a business that sells natural wood-based products that are locally made. They have a very circular business model because it's the same place where area residents drop off trees, leaves, and other yard waste! Their material is generated on-site and available for pickup in bulk quantities. So, the environmental benefits include no extra packaging material and the transportation chain is very local (from their site directly to the consumers location).-

After using the link to calculate my water footprint, I learned that my meat-loving diet is the biggest area for water consumption. 🐂😋🥩 Hey, at least my recycling and reuse habits help to offset that! 😏-

- 17-DAY STREAK
Yes, that is kind of shocking, isn't it? I try to increase the number of meatless meals I make, but my meat-loving family always notice and think I forgot something!

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingHow did decluttering and donating items make you feel, both emotionally and physically?

- 17-DAY STREAK
Over the weekend I gathered up a few outdated and unused electronics from around my house and brought them in for recycling. It's great that our Emerson Twin Cities Green Team is partnering with a local business, RePowered, to collect items that can be refurbished and send others on to a recycling or responsible waste stream.

On Severe Weather Awareness day here in Minnesota I practiced taking shelter in my home in case a tornado or damaging storm happens. I charged up my portable weather radio and made sure it was working to tune into emergency weather alerts. It's best to be prepared! 🌪️😮⛈️-

🚜🌾🧑🌾 I grew up on a farm in SW Minnesota and knew that topsoil loss and nutrient depletion is having long term effects on the food production system. I'm excited to begin learning more about regenerative agriculture and how it could help address the ongoing problems.-
