  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal
What resource or strategy stood out to you the most, and how could it help you strengthen your resilience when you face stress or uncertainty?

What stood out to me most was the idea of focusing on what I can control. In Research Operations, there’s always something unexpected—things break, priorities shift, and not everything is in my hands. But I can control how I respond, how I support my team, and how I communicate through it.
That mindset helps me stay steady when things get stressful. Instead of getting pulled into the chaos, I focus on what needs to get done, keep things organized, and make sure my team has what they need to succeed. It also reminds me that showing up consistently—for my team and for leadership—goes a long way in reducing uncertainty, even when things aren’t perfect.
At the end of the day, resilience for me is about staying grounded, keeping perspective, and continuing to move things forward, even when it’s not easy.

How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?

Eating more fruits and vegetables and reducing meat consumption has a positive ripple effect on my health, my community, and the planet. Personally, it helps me feel more energized and supports long-term health by providing essential nutrients and reducing intake of saturated fats. For others, especially on a global scale, shifting toward more plant-based foods can help improve food accessibility and reduce the strain on healthcare systems. Environmentally, eating less meat lowers greenhouse gas emissions, reduces water usage, and decreases the demand for resource-intensive farming practices.
This week, I tried incorporating more variety into my meals, including roasted Brussels sprouts, fresh berries, and avocado. My favorite was the Brussels sprouts—they were surprisingly flavorful and satisfying, especially when roasted with a little olive oil and seasoning.

During this challenge, I hope to deepen my understanding of how small, consistent actions can drive meaningful change—both individually and across a community. I want to continue shifting sustainability from something we talk about to something we do as part of our daily routines.

I’m also looking to challenge myself to be more intentional—whether that’s reducing waste, being mindful of energy use, or finding new ways to engage others in the process. If I can walk away with even a few new habits that stick long-term, that’s a win.

More broadly, I hope to inspire and learn from others along the way. The real impact of challenges like this isn’t just in the individual actions, but in the culture we build together.

What did you notice about your thoughts or emotions during or after meditation? How might mindfulness or calmness support your well-being day to day?

During meditation, I noticed how quickly my mind tends to jump from one thought to another—mostly around things I need to do or follow up on. At first, it felt a bit restless, but as I stayed with it, there was a shift where things slowed down and I became more aware of my breathing and the present moment. Afterward, I felt a sense of calm and a little more clarity, almost like hitting a reset button.
Mindfulness and calmness can support my day-to-day well-being by helping me respond more intentionally instead of reacting automatically—especially in busy or stressful situations. Taking even a few moments to pause can improve focus, reduce stress, and create space to think more clearly. Over time, I think it can also help with maintaining balance, staying grounded, and approaching both work and personal life with a bit more patience and perspective.

The hard part for me is restlessness during mediation, as you mentioned. A thousand thoughts come in when I try to meditate!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community
What was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?

The most rewarding part wasn’t just getting people in the same room—it was watching connections happen in real time. Seeing individuals from different backgrounds, roles, and perspectives find common ground reminded me of how powerful shared purpose can be. In those moments, it felt like we weren’t just hosting an event—we were building something bigger than ourselves. Creating a space where people felt welcome, heard, and inspired to engage made it truly meaningful.

As with any meaningful effort, there were challenges—coordinating logistics, balancing different expectations, and ensuring
everyone felt included. But those moments became opportunities. Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, I leaned into collaboration, stayed flexible, and kept the purpose front and center. By focusing on why we were bringing people together in the first place, the obstacles became part of the process rather than barriers. In the end, those challenges made the experience stronger and more authentic.

One of the highlights of my job is facilitating a swap shop - specifically for giving a second life to unused equipment that still works! IF we only did this not just through work, but in our communities more, we aren't just diverting waste, we are helping those in need too!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    What is resilience?
What story did you share, and how did it feel to share it? Did telling or hearing resilience stories shift how you think about strength and adaptability?
