Save Water When Washing Dishes

Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Community and Connection

Check In with a Friend or Colleague

Staying connected strengthens relationships and boosts well-being. Each day, I will reach out to 5 friends or colleagues to check in, have a meaningful conversation, or offer support.

COMPLETED 22

Take Shorter Showers

Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!

Belonging to a group can help build friendships and a sense of purpose. I will explore online or in-person groups or clubs that share my interests or goals and join a group to connect with others.

Advocate For Better Food Packaging

When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.

What a positive and inspriing month! The Eco Challenge has reminded me that taking care of myself – connecting with friends, meditating, and sleeping well – fuels my ability to care for my family and the environment. I'm also feeling good about the more mindful water habits I've formed. Every little bit counts!

It's been a really positive month, actually! The Ecochallenge has reminded me that taking care of myself is also crucial for taking care of my family and the environment. I've been prioritizing checking in with friends – that connection really helps when you're juggling so much. The daily meditation and focus on getting enough sleep have made a noticeable difference in my energy levels, which in turn helps me be more present and patient. On the conservation front, I've definitely been more mindful of our water usage. Those shorter showers are becoming a habit, and I've been more diligent about saving water while washing dishes – every little bit counts, right?

Embrace "Exercise Snacks": Instead of trying to fit in one long workout, sprinkle short bursts of physical activity throughout your day. These "exercise snacks," even just 5-10 minutes each, can add up and provide significant health benefits.
Here are some ideas for incorporating exercise snacks:
    • Take a brisk walk: During your lunch break, walk for 10 minutes. If you're working from home, step outside for a quick walk around your neighborhood.
    • Stair climbing: If you have stairs available, climb them up and down a few times throughout the day.
    • Desk stretches: Take short breaks to do some simple stretches at your desk. This can help improve circulation and reduce muscle tension. Focus on your neck, shoulders, back, and wrists.
    • Bodyweight exercises: Do a quick set of squats, lunges, or push-ups. Aim for as many repetitions as you comfortably can in a few minutes.
    • Dance break: Put on your favorite music and dance for a few minutes to get your heart rate up and boost your mood.
    • Active chores: When doing household chores, put on some energy! Sweep vigorously, march while you fold laundry, or do calf raises while washing dishes.
Remember, consistency is key. Aim to incorporate a few exercise snacks into your day, and you'll be surprised at the positive impact they can have on your overall health and well-being. Since today is also Earth Day, consider making one of your exercise snacks a walk in a park or green space to benefit both your physical and mental health while connecting with nature.
