    The Valea Șesei tailings impoundment (for the Roșia Poieni copper mine) has created an artificial lake at Geamăna whose acidic waters—rich in copper, iron, zinc, lead and arsenic—leach into the adjacent Aries and Turda rivers. Episodes of pond overflows and pump failures have killed fish downstream and pose chronic risks to any community drawing water from those streams

    We did a cleanup effort at our apartment building together with our neighbors and the kids. It was a rewarding feeling seeing the cleaned surroundings afterwards and also a playful event for the kids.

    I've read more about Rosia Montana where had the gold-mining project proceeded, it would have displaced hundreds, leveled four mountaintops and stored some 200 million L of cyanide-laced tailings, threatening watercourses and cultural heritage.
