Traci's actions

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Use Reusable Bags

Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Land + Forests

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

Itr's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Consume only Needs vs Wants

The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.

COMPLETED 2
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Weekly Meal Planning

One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.

COMPLETED 8
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Calculate My Carbon Impact

Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I have been using reusable bags for a while now. At first, I would forget them when going inside a store, so I would just pay the 10 cents for a bag. Now, if I forget I will actually take my cart of groceries to my trunk and bag the items myself! I need to get better about clothing stores. I don't like to carry a bag while shopping for clothes.

I have forgotten to bring bags before, and it kills me to have to pay. I now keep a supply of bags in the back of my car.

I have learned to only buy the amount of produce I need for my meal plans. I often overbuy when produce is on sale, because I have the best intentions to use it all. Meal planning has helped me realize that I can freeze items, like berries and use them later in yogurt or a smoothie.

I am the same way, filled with good intentions to use all the produce I buy. I definitely have noticed the benefits from meal planning. Not only am I wasting less food, I am spending less at the grocery store since I'm not buying "good intention" produce.

Two birds made a tiny nest on top of the wreath on my front door. My boyfriend said that we can give them free rent for a couple of months!
