Tünde's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Learn about Native Species
The world is full of unique species. I will spend 20 minutes each day learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.
Climate + Air
Weekly Meal Planning
One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Beauty and Personal Products
Beauty and personal products can create a lot of waste. I will spend 120 minutes learning about the beauty and body products I use to see if they are refillable or recyclable. If not, I will reach out to the manufacturer to advocate for those options.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 480 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Land + Forests
Regenerative Agriculture and Me
Regenerative agriculture focuses on farming and ranching in a way that supports life and restores the soil. I will spend 120 minutes learning about regenerative agriculture and find out if any nearby farms practice regenerative agriculture.
Land + Forests
Personal Waste Audit
The waste we create daily can go unnoticed. I will track the waste I create in a day and post a photo log on the feed to see how much I create and where I can make different choices to reduce my waste going forward.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Invest in Nature
A healthy world needs both our daily actions and support from larger systems. I will spend 120 minutes learning about how I can use my investments and savings to advance environmental sustainability.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Plastic in Clothing and Water
Synthetic clothing can contain plastic and shed harmful microplastics into our water. I will use a microplastics catcher in my laundry, or install a microplastics filter for my washing machine.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Climate + Air
Stay on the Ground
Carbon emissions from air travel is harmful to planetary and human health. Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Land + Forests
Advocate for Forest Protection
Using my voice can help create a more sustainable and just world. I will contact 1 local, regional, or national decision makers to advocate for public policy that protects forests and improves their ability to sequester carbon and nourish biodiversity.
Land + Forests
Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and Paper
Trees provide food and habitat for local wildlife species, shade our streets and homes, and help keep our air and water clean by capturing pollutants. Buying products that help protect forests makes a difference. I will only purchase wood, furniture, and paper products from ecologically certified sources such as Forest Stewardship Council.
Land + Forests
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will look for sustainable palm oil products with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSP) label. I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation and opt for ones that help sustain healthy communities and forests.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Reduce Pollutants in Cleaning
Understanding cleaning product ingredients and their effect on water and biodiversity is helpful to our consumer choices. I will spend 150 minutes learning about how cleaning products affect our water and try making my own cleaning products to reduce pollutants.
Freshwater + Oceans
Go Plastic-Free
Millions of tons of plastic is produced each year worldwide. Each day, I will conduct a plastics audit of what I buy and use throughout the challenge (kitchen, bathroom, personal care products, etc.), to see how single-use plastic shows up in my life. I will find plastic-free alternatives to these products and advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, product manufacturers, at work, or on campus.
Action Track: Community
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 20 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Action Track: Community
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Action Track: Community
Share My "Why"
I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.
Action Track: Community
Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Learning in a social setting can inspire connection and change. I will work with a friend or colleague to plan and host a lunch and learn at work, school, in my neighborhood or other location to learn more about an environmental topic important to me. After the lunch and learn, I will share more about it on the feed.
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 16 hours in my community.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Tünde Benő 4/18/2024 11:18 AMToday with my son we kept meatless day. I received from my neighbors some vegetarian cabage rolls for launch and I made a salad for dinner. I did not eat in the morning, my son choise was fresh brokkoli. Easy job as he is not really a meat eater. -
Tünde Benő 4/17/2024 12:53 PMToday in the workshop I was just thinking how much more I have to make and I already dedicate so much time for sustainability. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Community Sustainability Lunch and LearnWho did you engage in your lunch and learn? What resources did you use? How did it go and what did you learn?
Tünde Benő 4/17/2024 8:08 AMWe organized a food waste webinar with some professional support to learn about foodwaste, where I learned a lot about food wheel and mealplanning I can consider for my meal plan.-

Tünde Benő 4/16/2024 11:08 AMThis week is dedicated for students and the Eutopia project, where one of the pillars is sustainability. The challange we gave them is about solving some issues on sustainable packaging. Out of 12 teams from 80 students from 10 universities, with different level of knowlage (phd to university degree), 2 teams choosed to work on our challange (there where more than 12 projects presented)… is just amazing to work with young generation and see how important sustainability for them is. It’s important to partner with everyone. I will keep you updated on this topic and the outcome. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests Choose Eco-Friendly Wood and PaperBeyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?
Tünde Benő 4/15/2024 11:02 PMMy whole childhood was arround the forest, long walks and respect, so first of all are memories with my grandparents, than the birds songs and small moovment of the leafs, touching eachothers is relaxation. Being in nature is getting back to the origins, reflection of my life and I have to recognize that I could not imagine life alswhere but close to forests and mountains. I use as much possible recycled paper to protect the nature I received and I will leave after my life ends.-
Simona Pantelimon 4/16/2024 11:53 AMI cannot imagine my life without being once per week in a forest. 😊 -
Ulrika Lindstrom 4/16/2024 1:24 AMLike you, I spent a lot of time in the forest as a child. Spending time there has always been therapy for me. I love everything about it - the smells, the sounds... Plus I'm big on foraging, so it also offers fantastic opportunities for delicious berries and mushrooms!

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Save the BeesWhat did you plant for bees in your area? Please consider uploading a photo!
Tünde Benő 4/15/2024 8:50 PMWhat you can do to care for bees:- First,by planting wildflowers that are native to your region and avoiding the use of pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides will provide a safe environment for bees to feed and flourish.
- Second, working with your local city commission to stop the spraying for mosquitoes.
- Finally, supporting product brands which have made commitments to helping pollinators
In our backyard we planted a lot of flowers instead of grass, this will be the first year after planting, besides that I studied a lot which flower has to be planted next to each vegetable to naturally protect those to create a healthy environment. Unfortunatelly I’m allergic to bees, so have to be careful. On our balcony we just planted some strawberrys and some native flowers.
This year World Honeybee Day is celebrated on 17’th of April. -
Tünde Benő 4/15/2024 11:49 AMToday I installed my very first wifi smart led by hama. I like very much how easy is to install and manage everything from my phone. I really recomand to everyone. this is my phone screenshot 😅 -
Tünde Benő 4/14/2024 11:26 AMIn the morning my son each day eats 1 fish, all kinds, he loves it and he can eat it all the times. I will carefully take time after reading your posts what kind of fish I take for him. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + Oceans Reduce Pollutants in CleaningWhat did you learn about ingredients in our cleaning products and how they impact water and biodiversity? Did you try making your own cleaning products? If so, how did it go?
Tünde Benő 4/13/2024 12:08 PMI like to make handmade soaps, but fir that I use oils and different butters, their production being not so user friendly. I found a better solution the soap nuts, which is a berry. Learning about this made me curious so I will order some to test. If you would like to try it on here is some great material:

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Tünde Benő 4/13/2024 12:00 PMI usually do not tak souvenirs but I catched one I would love to receive. When I take something usually is something people would need at home but is not usual in our region, like brown cheese from Norway, home made olive oil from Italy.
