Water
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Soil and Food
Share or Donate Surplus Food
Sharing surplus food not only prevents waste but also strengthens social safety nets. I will donate or share 3 meals or food items through a food bank, community fridge, or with neighbors to support food security and resilience.
Biodiversity and Wildlife
Reduce Light Pollution
Too much artificial light can confuse and harm animals, especially those active at night. I will reduce sources of outdoor light or switch to wildlife-friendly fixtures to support healthy habitats.
Work and Organizations
Support Local or Minority-Owned Businesses
Purchasing choices can strengthen community resilience. I will direct 3 of my organization’s purchases or events toward local or minority-owned businesses, helping build diverse and resilient economies.

Jose Beltran 4/29/2026 11:00 AMIt’s been going pretty well overall. I didn’t realize how many small habits I had that weren’t very eco-friendly until I actually started paying attention. Stuff like shorter showers, turning off lights, and being more mindful about waste seemed small at first, but they’ve started to feel more natural now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity and WildlifeWhat lights did you reduce or change, and how might this help wildlife near you?
Jose Beltran 4/29/2026 10:58 AMI reduced things like leaving my room lights on all night and started turning off outside lights when they weren’t needed. I also paid more attention to not using really bright lights late at night unless I had to.This can help wildlife because a lot of animals rely on natural light patterns to hunt, sleep, or migrate. Too much artificial light can confuse them or disrupt their behavior, so keeping lights off or dimmer at night helps keep things closer to how they’re supposed to be. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSoil and FoodWhere did your surplus food go, and who did it benefit? How does sharing food strengthen resilience in your community?
Jose Beltran 4/29/2026 10:57 AMMy surplus food went to people in my community who needed it, like a local food pantry and a few roommates. It mainly benefited families who might not always have consistent access to meals, so even something small could make a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWork and OrganizationsWhat business did you support, and what did you learn about them? How do purchasing choices like this help build stronger and more connected communities?
Jose Beltran 4/29/2026 10:51 AMChoosing to spend money at places like that helps keep money in the community and supports local jobs. It also builds stronger connections because you’re directly helping people around you instead of just a large corporation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow did shortening your showers affect your awareness of water conservation? What other water-saving practices can you adopt in your daily routine?
Jose Beltran 4/29/2026 10:49 AMShortening my showers made me way more aware of how much water I was actually using without thinking about it. Before, I’d just let the water run and not really pay attention to the time, but once I started cutting my showers down, I realized how quickly it adds up. It made me think more about not wasting water and being more intentional with how I use it, even in small ways.
