Health and Well-Being
Enjoy the Outdoors for 30 Minutes
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside, then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 15 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Wildlife
Learn to Grow Plants Your Way
Growing plants can be rewarding and can create habitats big and small for wildlife. And, we can grow things almost anywhere! I will spend 15 minutes researching options for growing plants either inside or outside.
Health and Well-Being
Meditate
Meditation helps build resilience and clarity. I will spend 5 minutes each day to meditate or create a moment of silence each day to reflect on things important to me.
Wildlife
Plant (or Adopt) a Plant
Landscaping with native plants, gardening, and having plants inside can have benefits for nature and our health. I will plant or adopt a new plant or grow one from seeds and post a photo of it to the feed.
Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. When I go shopping, I will be sure to bring my own bags to reduce waste and the chance that plastic bags could find their way into wildlife habitats.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Health and Well-Being
Exercise Daily
Daily movement supports our physical and mental health. I will spend 25 minutes each day exercising in a way that feels good to me, such as walking, running, stretching, or dancing.

I think the hardest part for me is checking in on the day of. I’ve been really good about doing all of the daily actions because I put reminders on my phone and I’ve been able to integrate them as habits rally easily. I’ve had to go back and add all of my details retroactively instead of posting day of but, I’m glad I can still add it in. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat surprised you most about the products you use in your home?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 11:33 PMWhat surprised me the most is that I had no idea about half of the cleaners I’m using and what’s in them. I’m also realizing there’s cleaners I knew not to use near each other and others I didn’t know can’t be used with each other. I think a lot of the information and cleaner brands I use were passed down to me and that’s why there’s so much I don’t know. I’m really glad I looked into the cleaners I use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 11:25 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
I use bags everyday so I wanted to see if I could eliminate all single use bags. This challenge has been a bit difficult trying to remember to bring a bag everywhere but I’ve gotten into the habit of it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeAre you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 11:09 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
I love plants and every once in a while I try my hand at gardening. I think I need to learn more about plants in general. I’m trying to research more about fertilizing and watering schedules. I feel like I’m always over or under watering my plants and I have no clue how to properly fertilize my plants or what to use. I’m interested in learning more about compost and using compost in the garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeHow did it feel to plant something, and what kind of gardening did you do (indoors, hydroponic, outside in a garden, etc)? What did you plant and where? Feel free to share a photo to the feed!
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 11:06 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
Today, Earth Day, I decided to “adopt” a couple of plants. I wanted them to be something that could not only look interesting in my garden but, also edible. I live in apartment so I decided to choose plants that would do well in a container garden. I picked tomato, zucchini, and snap pea plants because they don’t need as much water as some other plants. I put them in a full to partial shaded area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirHow did changing your dishwashing habits make you more mindful of water use? What other small changes can you make to conserve water in your household?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 10:39 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
I’m trying to rinse and scrub my dishes as soon as I make them and the load them into the washer. I think this will prevent build up of dishes and running the dishwasher unnecessarily. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingHow did exercising each day impact your physical or mental well-being? What activity did you enjoy most, and why?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 10:37 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
Today, I got out to exercise by walking my dog. I hope to build up the intensity of this task up over the challenge. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you notice about your thoughts or emotions during or after meditation? Did you find it easy or challenging to meditate?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 10:36 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
I find medication to be very challenging for me. My thoughts tend to be very busy while I’m trying to clear them. I’m going to take it slowly and hopefully build up to longer period of time over the month. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat did you observe or experience while spending time outside, and how did it affect you? How does connecting with nature enhance your physical and mental well-being?
Maddie Bauer 4/30/2025 10:34 PM- Plant Parent 🪴
I’ve been trying to spend more and more time outside with the weather getting warmer. Connecting with nature has been helping me clear my mind and focus.
