Land, Water, and Air
Learn to Choose Forest-Friendly Foods
Our food choices can help protect forests and wildlife. I will spend 5 minutes learning how to choose foods that are grown in ways that protect forests, such as avoiding products linked to deforestation and seeking certified sustainable options like shade-grown coffee or palm oil-free products.
Land, Water, and Air
Save Water When Washing Dishes
Dishwashers can save water — if used wisely. I will only run the dishwasher when it’s full and skip the pre-rinse to reduce water and energy use. If I don't have a dishwasher, I will turn off the tap as often as possible while washing dishes.
Land, Water, and Air
Produce No Waste for a Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Knowing our carbon footprint is the first step to reducing it. I will calculate my carbon impact and identify lifestyle changes that could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment. I will share my commitments to lowering my impact on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Conduct a Home Energy Audit
Reducing energy use helps protect the air and climate. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy and reduce pollution.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationHow did participating in a bio-blitz with young people enhance their understanding of local biodiversity? What impact do you think activities like a bio-blitz have on inspiring youth to protect nature?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:13 AMParticipating in a bio-blitz with young people was an incredibly enriching experience. A bio-blitz, where participants work together to identify as many species as possible within a given area over a short period of time, offers an interactive and hands-on approach to learning about local biodiversity. For the young participants, this type of activity helps make the concept of biodiversity tangible and immediate. Rather than reading about ecosystems or watching videos, they get to observe, interact with, and identify the variety of life in their own backyards or local parks. It’s a dynamic way of engaging with nature that sparks curiosity and excitement. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEmpowering the Next GenerationWhat did you learn about the youth climate activists you supported, and how do their efforts inspire you?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:13 AMSupporting youth climate activists has been incredibly inspiring. What I’ve learned from their efforts is just how powerful young voices can be in driving real change. These activists are not just raising awareness about the climate crisis—they’re pushing for action and holding leaders accountable in a way that’s both impactful and urgent. They represent a new generation that is not waiting for change to happen but actively working to make it happen, and that sense of urgency and purpose is truly motivating. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat resources did you discover, and how do you think they can benefit your community? How did sharing this information make you feel more connected to your community’s needs and opportunities?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:09 AMDiscovering resources that can benefit a community is always eye-opening and rewarding. Recently, I learned about a variety of local initiatives, programs, and resources that could make a significant impact on my community. For example, I came across local food banks, community gardens, and skills-sharing programs that help individuals and families in need. I also discovered educational workshops that focus on sustainable living, mental health support, and local job training programs, all of which can uplift people and create stronger connections within the community. One of the most impactful resources I found was a community resource hub that helps connect individuals with available services, such as job opportunities, housing support, and wellness programs. This resource benefits the community by making it easier for people to find the support they need, especially for those who may not have access to traditional information channels. It fosters a sense of unity by providing equitable access to essential services and opportunities.I also came across online platforms for skill-sharing and volunteering, where people can exchange their expertise in areas like carpentry, language tutoring, or even financial literacy. These platforms encourage community members to collaborate and support each other, creating a stronger, more self-sufficient network.Sharing this information made me feel much more connected to my community’s needs and opportunities. It reminded me how vital it is to stay informed and involved with what’s happening locally. These resources help bridge gaps, whether for individuals facing hardship, people looking to develop new skills, or even those seeking to build connections with others. It also reinforced how important it is to support each other—when one person benefits from a resource, it can have a ripple effect that strengthens the entire community.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat did you learn about the sacred site’s history and significance? Why are these sites important to protect, support, and understand?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:09 AMLearning about the history and significance of a sacred site can be incredibly enlightening. These sites often carry deep cultural, spiritual, and historical meaning for the communities that hold them dear, and understanding their significance allows for a richer appreciation of the traditions and values associated with them. Sacred sites are not just physical spaces—they are embodiments of history, identity, and connection to the land and the natural world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity and ConnectionWhat was the most rewarding part of bringing people together for a gathering? Did you experience any challenges in hosting, and if so, how did you overcome them?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:08 AMBringing people together for a gathering can be incredibly rewarding. For me, the most fulfilling part is the sense of connection and shared experience that emerges. Whether it's family, friends, or even new acquaintances, seeing everyone come together and enjoy each other's company, celebrate a special moment, or simply relax in one another’s presence is what makes hosting so special. It’s amazing how people can connect over food, activities, or just being in a welcoming space. There's a unique energy when people feel comfortable and are having a good time, and that’s what makes the effort of hosting worthwhile. However, hosting also comes with its challenges. One of the biggest ones for me has been managing logistics—things like food preparation, making sure there's enough seating, or coordinating timing. If guests are arriving at different times, I’ve found it difficult to balance being social and hosting without feeling like I’m stuck in the kitchen or running around too much. To overcome this, I’ve learned to simplify things, whether by preparing a lot of food ahead of time or making the space more self-sufficient, like setting up a self-serve drink station or buffet-style meal. It allows me to relax a little more and spend time with everyone rather than feeling constantly on the go.Another challenge is trying to accommodate everyone's preferences or dietary needs. I’ve had to get creative to ensure there's something for everyone—especially when it comes to allergies or different food preferences. Planning ahead and asking guests about any special requirements beforehand really helps ease this stress. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat project or organization did you choose to support, and why did it resonate with you? What are some ways you can continue to support wildlife conservation beyond financial contributions?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:08 AMI chose to support organizations focused on wildlife conservation, particularly those that work on protecting endangered species and their habitats. One organization that really resonates with me is the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Their comprehensive approach to conservation—ranging from species protection to addressing the root causes of environmental degradation like deforestation and climate change—really speaks to me. I appreciate how they work not only to conserve wildlife but also to empower local communities to live sustainably, which helps create long-lasting impacts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeAre you a gardener or house plant lover? Why or why not? What do you need to elevate your plant care skills?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:08 AMI definitely appreciate the idea of being a gardener or house plant lover! There's something about having plants around—whether in a garden or in your living room—that brings life and energy into a space. The whole process of nurturing a plant from a seedling or cutting to a thriving plant feels really satisfying, and I love how plants can purify the air and create a calming environment.I’m not quite a seasoned gardener, but I’ve dabbled in growing houseplants, and it’s been a fun and educational experience. For example, I started with a few easy-to-care-for plants, like snake plants and pothos, and I've gradually expanded to herbs and succulents. The learning process is fascinating—figuring out what each plant needs in terms of light, water, and soil is like solving a little puzzle. What I could use to elevate my plant care skills are definitely a few things:- Better Understanding of Plant Varieties: While I’m familiar with common houseplants, I’d love to learn more about specific varieties and their unique needs—whether it’s adjusting water schedules, temperature preferences, or soil conditions.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWildlifeWhat did you learn about how tourism impacts wildlife, and how can you make more conscious choices when planning a trip? How do you think your travel decisions can contribute to wildlife conservation and respectful interactions with nature?
Gnanasekaran Basuvaiyan 4/08/2025 4:07 AMTourism can have a significant impact on wildlife, and learning more about this really changed the way I think about travel. One of the biggest things I realized is that, while tourism can bring attention and funding to conservation efforts, it can also harm wildlife in many ways. Activities like wildlife safaris, hiking, or even just visiting certain natural areas can disrupt habitats, stress animals, and contribute to overcrowding in delicate ecosystems. For example, some wildlife tours may not prioritize the well-being of animals, leading to unethical treatment or disturbance, especially if the animals are habituated to human presence.
