- 11-DAY STREAK
I use a heavy chemical laundry detergent too. I may switch to something else one day, but I purposely switched away from liquid gunk in a small plastic container to a plastic powder in a really large container. It's lasted my family about a year on the same container! There's still ways to reduce some plastics before making a total overhaul -

Bri's actions
Land, Water, and Air
Conduct a Home Energy Audit
Reducing energy use helps protect the air and climate. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy and reduce pollution.
Land, Water, and Air
Reduce Food Waste
Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources. I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Sustainable Innovation
Choose a Product Made with Sustainable Materials
Every choice matters. I will purchase or switch to products made from sustainable or recycled materials to support innovation and reduce environmental impact.
Sustainable Innovation
Advocate For Better Food Packaging
When companies and governments make large-scale changes to their products and practices, it makes sustainability more accessible to the masses, in turn creating further demand for sustainable products, and the cycle continues. I will advocate for improved, sustainable food packaging through petitions, letters, or by supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly packaging - and share my advocacy actions on the feed.
Health and Well-Being
Audit Toxic Products in my Home
Many common products contain harmful chemicals. I will spend 30 minutes researching chemicals found in products I use, and I will make a list of products I'd like to replace with safer options.
Land, Water, and Air
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Land, Water, and Air
Join a Cleanup Effort
Working together to clean up public spaces helps the environment and builds community. I will participate in 2 community cleanup efforts in my neighborhood or local area.
Wildlife
Enjoy a Meatless Meal
Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals and/or 2 vegan meals each day.
Sustainable Innovation
Support Resilient Powergrids
A community can be brought to its knees without dependable power, often affecting the most vulnerable. I will write 1 letters or emails per day to a public official or company to advocate for a more resilient power grid (e.g. microgrids, solar storage).
Community and Connection
Attend a Local Event
Local events such as farmers' markets, festivals, or community meetings like town halls are great ways to feel part of a community. I will attend 4 community events to connect with others and learn more about my area.
Sustainable Innovation
Invest in the Future of Sustainability
Sustainable investments shape a greener future. I will research and invest in companies, funds, or projects that supports sustainability, such as renewable energy, green tech, or sustainable practices. I will share more about who I supported with others on social media or in the Ecochallenge feed.
Health and Well-Being
Declutter and Donate
Decluttering can reduce stress and benefit others. I will declutter my home and donate items I no longer need to support others in my community.
Land, Water, and Air
Take Shorter Showers
Conserving water helps protect this precious resource. I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
Health and Well-Being
Prioritize Getting Enough Sleep
Good sleep is essential for a healthy body and mind. I will prioritize getting 8 minutes of quality sleep each night and develop a bedtime routine that supports rest and relaxation.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Well-BeingWhat surprised you most about the products you use in your home?
Bri Archer 4/18/2025 9:00 AMI mainly clean with castile soap, vinegar, and baking soda. However, I still have standard pet stain remover for the carpets and Tide powder laundry detergent. These are things I'd like to switch over to something less toxic when they are used up. :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSustainable InnovationWhat actions did you take to advocate for sustainable food packaging, and how were they received? How do you think widespread changes in food packaging could benefit the planet?
Bri Archer 4/15/2025 9:00 AMOne of the best ways I avoid more plastic when grocery shopping is by bringing my own produce bags (or not use them at all)! It is also best to avoid processed food as much as possible, because it usually comes with the most packaging. I also try to go buy produce from my local farmers market when I can.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat surprised you most about your water footprint, and how did it influence your perspective on water use? What changes can you make to reduce your water consumption, and how will these impact your daily routine?
Bri Archer 4/15/2025 8:53 AMI've found the best way to reduce my water consumption is by taking shorter showers. I have long hair that can take a while to wash. Moving forward, I'm going to try and turn of the water while I'm shampooing and conditioning my hair. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirWhat did you discover during your energy audit that you weren’t aware of before? What steps will you take to reduce energy use, and how will they benefit both the environment and your household?
Bri Archer 4/09/2025 12:03 PMI'm terrible about leaving my devices plugged in when they aren't in use. This is something I'm going to try to work on! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand, Water, and AirAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money? What patterns did you notice in the food you threw away, and how can you address them?
Bri Archer 4/09/2025 11:58 AMChopping up and freezing the veggies I have that are about to go bad has been a game changer when it comes to reducing food waste!
