Lenora's actions

Land + Forests

Forest-Friendly Foods

I will look for sustainable palm oil products with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSP) label. I will replace or remove the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation and opt for ones that help sustain healthy communities and forests.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Physcial Activity

Engage in 30 minutes or more of physical activity 3-5 times per week.

COMPLETED 13
DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Borrow Before I Buy

Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Land + Forests

30 for 30 in Nature

Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.

COMPLETED 4
DAILY ACTIONS

Action Track: Community

Meatless Meals

I will commit to 1 meatless meal per day

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Use Muscle Power

I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Hello Comerica Eco challenge team. It has been wonderful participating with all of you. I have worked on some things and learned new things from you who have shared your experiences. It is another beautiful day in SE Michigan today and a nice cool breeze and I took a walk on my morning break. I look forward to implementing some changes in my own daily life journey. I challenge everyone to do the same. Consider: What one small change can I make today to contribute to making our world better?

What have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?

I can't say enough about how beautiful it is in Michigan today. I went for a walk on my morning break and lunch today. The sun is shining nicely and there is a nice cool breeze. I noticed the grass is a beautiful green and the trees are in full bloom. It is wonderful to get some fresh air and sunshine. It feels good. The pace isn't the most important just that we make some steps to get some movement in daily.

I have begun to limit my use of plastic dishware including plastic spoons, forks, and knives. I found that many of them contain harmful chemicals such as PVC (a toxic and carcinogenic chemical banned and regulated in the U.S. ). I bring silverware to work with me to use at work. I may use them when there are external events I attend, but considering carrying around my own dishware for when plastic is provided. You can't see it, so don't have a way of knowing it's present unless you study and learn about this yourself.

I also use silverware when I am in the office. I have found compostable utensils that I use when I am unable to bring silverware from home. I also used them when I hosted my daughter's outdoor bridal shower.

Good morning Comerica team, What a beautiful day it is in Michigan today. I took a walk on my break and nature looks good: the grass is green, the birds are lively and chirping, and the sun is shining brightly. I am thankful for this day. Have a good day everyone!

Have a great weekend. Comerica team! I did a few more actions today. I ran the dishwasher and washed clothes after 3 p.m. I turned off all the lights and let the sun shine in since it was so sunny out to conserve electricity. Everyone keep up with the great actions contributing to a better climate now and in the future!

Yes, Lenora! We put a post it note on the washer to remember the peak times now that there is tiered pricing. It has helped to change our behavior.

I take Zumba on Thursdays. This is a very fun, interactive class where we dance, have a good time, and burn a boat-load of calories. I enjoy it a lot and feel good after. I take care of myself so I can decide on seeking to have better health, be a good example to others, encourage others and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

Good morning Comerica team. I had balance and pilates last night and we use hand held weights. It feels really good to get some physical movement in. Most communities offer low-cost courses; this supports my community and helps to relieve some stress and build muscle. I really enjoy them and feel really good about them.

okay, I got another meatless meal in. I had an Amy's frozen burrito--all natural and organic and the largest navel orange (I would count it as 2 fruits!!) I have ever seen! And more water! Which reminds me, my best friend in Las Vegas was telling me about ornamental orange trees. I said, "what's that?". She says the oranges look identical to real orange trees, but they aren't fit for human consumption and would taste awful. I asked, "who would want those???". She says they are popular to control pests or rodents that wouldn't like them either! That was my first time learning about those type of trees.

I had some new clothes and shoes that didn't fit, and never returned them or had issues trying to return, and a few still with the tags still on. I found someone that could fit them and appreciate them instead of them just sitting in my closet for another 2-3 years never to wear them! I am trying to contribute and not waste where I can and encourage everyone to do the same. Have a great day team Comerica!

Good afternoon team. Today is going to be a great day! I started breakfast with a hard-boiled egg and an apple and some peanut butter and water; feeling good to start the day. Hope everyone is able to make small changes to achieve our team goals. Go Comerica team!!!!
