The seed-to-plant process, or seed germination, involves several key steps: imbedding the seed, activation of enzymes and metabolism, root and shoot emergence, photomorphogenesis, and establishment of the seedling. First, water fills the seed, activating enzymes that initiate growth. Then, a root emerges to absorb water underground, followed by shoots that grow towards sunlight. Finally, the shoots develop leaves, and the plant begins photosynthesis.

One of the most famous ancient Greek philosophers, Aristotle, argued that the Earth was a sphere based on his observations of the stars. He believed that the stars were all the same distance from Earth, and they appeared to be moving in a circular pattern around the planet.
