Health and Well-Being

Prepare for Extreme Weather

Extreme weather events like hurricanes, wildfires, and floods can disrupt lives and upend our communities. I will take proactive steps to prepare for extreme weather by safeguarding my home and creating or updating an emergency plan and kit with essential supplies, evacuation routes, and contact information.

Enjoy a Meatless Meal

Producing 1 kg of beef emits as much greenhouse gas as driving 150 miles, meanwhile, 1 kg of veggies or grains leaves a much lighter footprint! This week, I’ll shrink my climate impact by having 2 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day.

Plastic bags do not always end up in landfills and if they aren't properly disposed of. In nature, they can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and harm wildlife. This challenge gave me a little extra motivation, taking time out to switch off and focus on excercise was great for overall health and wellbeing.
I found this challenge tough but I am happy that I was able to complete 29 out of the 30 days for this challenge.
The activity that I enjoyed the most was the Glorious Gravel 78km race in Yorkshire, Dalby national forest. Quality time well spent in nature!

My wife has introduced me to the Yuka app after learning about it a yoga festival.
Now when we visit a supermarket we scan food and health care products to identify harmful ingreidents, additives and pollutants.
I recently switched from using aerosls to deodrant stick. As the aerosole I was using included a susbstance, BHT which in studies has shown to be harmful to the human body as well as marine life.

Supporting 2 local litter picking gave me a positive feeling, especially meeting and spending time with other Emerson colleagues that I don't normally interact with in my daily work. It was disappointing to see what people carelessly disregard in bushes or next to pavements without taking the time to dispose of the waste properly. Lots of empty glass wine bottles and drinks can amongst other things, which can easily be recycled.

Note to self for next year's Earth Month, maybe consider a different challenge than 30mins daily excercise? Also I am not sure I agree that this is an intermediate challenge.
Been a fun challenge all the same, just not sure my knees fully agree...
