Action Track: Community
Raise Awareness for the Conservation of Freshwater and Oceans
I will spend 10 minutes learning more about the importance of freshwater + ocean conservation, and how I can reduce my water use. I will share what I learn with people in person, on social media, and on the feed.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Reduce Animal Products
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.
Land + Forests
30 for 30 in Nature
Studies have shown that when we spend consistent time in nature, our health improves, our creativity increases, and our connection to the planet gets stronger. Each day of the Ecochallenge, I will spend 30 minutes outside (in a large or small patch of nature), then share my observations, reflections, and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Climate + Air
Calculate My Carbon Impact
Carbon emissions can show up in many surprising ways in our life. I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Seek Alternative Gifts and Souvenirs
When traveling, I will seek souvenirs that support local communities and do not cause harm to the environment or wildlife.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Seek Alternative Gifts and SouvenirsHow do your consumption choices affect the health of wildlife and other communities?
Anastasia Afonin 4/23/2024 5:09 PMMy choices of consumption, such as eating meat products or using animal products affects wildlife by primarily taking their materials and their lives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + Wildlife Reduce Animal ProductsHow does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Anastasia Afonin 4/11/2024 8:03 AMAfter doing some research, I have found that eating meat affects our planet due to the cause of destroying forests and grasslands to produce the meat. As well as billions of tones of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere to produce the meat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + Air Calculate My Carbon ImpactWhere in your life do you emit the most carbon? What change are you willing to make in your daily life to reduce this output?
Anastasia Afonin 4/08/2024 9:19 AMI emit the most carbon by using my car. I drive quite frequently, as I like exploring new places. The changes I am willing to make in my daily life is to carpool with friends when we all go somewhere, as well as using public transportation in major cities to get to smaller nearby places. -
Anastasia Afonin 4/07/2024 4:44 PMMy month ecochallenge so far is going well. I have spent more time outside and researching more about my communities environment.-

Anastasia Afonin 4/07/2024 4:42 PMPicking up litter connects me to my neighborhood by keeping a pact with each other to keep the neighborhood clean. When I am outside I am sure to pick up whatever the kids may have left behind.-
ARUNSUNDAR S 4/07/2024 8:50 PMCleaning is the process of removing unwanted substances, such as dirt, infectious agents, and other impurities, from an object or environment. Cleaning is often performed for aesthetic, hygienic, functional, safety, or environmental protection purposes.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + Forests 30 for 30 in NatureWhat have you noticed about how it feels to spend consistent time outside?
Anastasia Afonin 4/04/2024 12:09 PMI Have felt happier being in nature. It was nice observing the birds that were around my partners house, and how they interacted with each other. I saw doves, hawks, and squirrels. I spent some time putting seeds into our bird feeder. -
Anastasia Afonin 4/02/2024 8:26 PMInstead of eating a burger from a fast food chain, I had decided to eat a lentil soup that I got from the grocery store. Nice knowing I am fueling my body with healthy foods and helping the environment!-
