During today's biodiversity research, I read up on the effects that climate change has on nature; climate change is the third leading cause of change in nature and the rapid changes Earth is experiencing are detrimental to its biodiversity. Everything from global warming to disrupted seasons, changes in sea levels, and so on threaten our...

"The EPA estimates that American households improperly dump about 193 million gallons of used oil every year, or roughly the equivalent of 17 Exxon Valdez oil spills." This was a very surprising statistic to learn. I don't usually poor oil down the sink, but I do on occasion when I'm feeling lazy, so from here on out I will be better...

Biodiversity is good for both nature and our own well-being because it: Ensures health and food security - millions of species work together to provide us with a large array of fruits, vegetables, and animal product essential to a healthy, balanced diet - but they are increasingly under threat. Every country has indigenous produce – such as...

It felt good to know that I had a healthy meal planned that would fill me up and I was excited about. It prevented me from purchasing to-go food in single-use containers.

I think the act of picking up litter connects you more to your community because getting involved, even in seemingly small ways, gives you a sense of belonging and pride. When I'm walking or driving and see trash along the sides of the road, it honestly makes me feel a little embarrassed. If I - someone who lives here - sees all of the trash...

I am going to eat less meat and dairy, as the production of these foods has a huge environmental impact and involves the unethical treatment of animals. Adopting a vegetarian diet, even just a few days a week, will reduce the high carbon foods I am consuming and increase the low carbon foods, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains like rice...

My "why" is because I care about the environment and want to do my part in protecting it. Plus, the challenges are fun and interesting, and I enjoy learning more about my own footprint and getting more ideas on ways I can take action. If anyone on our team wants to plan a day to meet up for the "Explore my Area" action and...

I learned that my water footprint aligns with the U.S. average (which is not good). A large portion of my footprint comes from my diet (meat) and running water (sinks and shower). To reduce my water use, I am going to eat more vegetarian meals, take shorter showers, and stop rinsing dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. The footprint...

The main take away for me was to be conscious on "buying local", especially for tropical fruits. Unless your in the tropics, locally grown tropical fruits wont do much to harm the rainforests but fruits grown in that area are increasing the risk of deforestation.

I currently have a native garden especially planted to attract native pollinating bees and i try to discourage invasive European honey bees as they are destroying native pollinators.
