Education & Livelihood Learn About The Education & Livelihood SDGs
What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

I think having global citizenship (and local citizenship) as well as sustainable development principles embedded in education is a great approach - make sustainability and the social/environmental/economic triple-bottom line the default, and the expectation they should have for their post-secondary careers and employers, as the baseline from which to innovate for a more sustainable future.

  • Reflection Question
Education & Livelihood Engage In Active Listening
What was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation benefit from active listening?

When we attend community events, we have a great opportunity to connect with residents across Dufferin, who all have a wide (and impressive!) range of knowledge and experience. When we actively listen when in conversation with one another, not only do we learn more, but we can also identify the ways that we can work together on climate action in our community.

For Earth Day we went Geocaching, made and hung birdfeeders, and picked up garbage.  It was a beautiful day!

We had an exciting day with the climate staff at Wellington County visiting a local farm and learning about the different ways to measure soil health!

I met with a grade 6 class today and we spoke about energy and climate change and the SDGs.
I was really impressed with the thoughtful questions and resulting discussions on how we can all reduce our energy use and waste and eliminate GHG emissions. I learned a lot from the class, especially different perspectives. They really made me think about how climate change hits home for all of us. I was also encouraged by their interest in wanting to do more.

I usually engage in active listening at least once a day, as I am always checking in with people. It's really nice to listen to people, and it benefits both of us, as we are strengthening out relationship and building a better sense of trust with eachother

Basic Needs & Security Know Your Produce
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

This really surprised me, because even though at home I shop organic foods, I eat a lot of the foods from the "Dirty Dozen". I've never used these lists before but I think I will start using them, and see if I can send them to my parents so they can start using it while they shop for produce.
