What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

Ever seen the movie Wall-E? This concept used to seem so far fetched to me but the more I research and learn, the more I realize that that concept isnt so far from becoming a reality if we as a culture do not start moving more.

    Health & Equity Practice Mindfulness
What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

You wouldnt think that finding 10 minutes in a 24 hour period would be so hard, but this was very very difficult for me. Probably the hardest part of this challenge. I need to learn to carve out time in my day, no matter what is going on, to rest myself and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. Sitting outside in the evenings with my eyes closed and my ears open really helped me recenter myself after such hectic days. I found I slept better and felt more rested for the next day.

Mindfulness has definitely been my hardest challenge too.  Thanks for picking it - having a hard time with it.  Find I use it in night school - when I wake up and have hard time getting back to sleep.

Basic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

5 minute or less showers was easy for me, as I have been doing that most of my life due to growing up in Southern California, for my children tho, not so easy. We are working on getting them off of baths and a 'shower routine' that will help them reduce their water waste, while also helping them understand the importance of conserving. They were taken aback to learn that water wasnt 'free' and that there are people who live wothout access to it. It was really eye opening for them to learn that and try to imagine what it would be like in a wolrd without water.

I have removed using straws in my household almost completely. I keep a bag of reusables in my car for when I a am out with my family. I have gotten much better about remembering to bring my own cups to work, and my children now each have their own reusable cups that they take with them to school and sporting events.

    Basic Needs & Security Volunteer
What was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?

One of my most memorable volunteer experiences was building a garden at my daughters elementary school and giving a presentation to the school on Earth Day. There is so much care and passion in those children and such a thirst for knowledge. They truly are the future of our home and more attention needs to be paid to educating them about our Earth.

Oooff...have some work to do here. We definitely need to upgrade the appliances in our home. We have taken steps to utilize 1 car as often as possible, and maximize the mpg while reducing the usage but there is a lot of room to grow here.

Wow! This was really eye opening. I knew about indoor and outdoor water use but had never really put any thought into virtual water use. My household scored better than I thought we would, as we do follow indoor and outdoor water saving measures, (something ingrained in me from growing up in California), but we definetly need to make some adjustments to our virtual water use.

Ugh.  I knew of some of Florida watershed issues but not some of the latest updates.  The politics behind proper support of agriculture by means they can avoid overwhelming natural waterways with fertilizer and other run offs is horrifying.   They are basically incentivized NOT to take action to avoid it.  The resulting algae blooms are truly devastating to the eco system (major water pant die off, record manatee deaths, etc).  It is frustrating to say the least.  Voting differently may help.
