    Economy & Communities Mend Clothing
What was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

I can do very basic repairs, sowing on buttons, fixing a rip, ect. Whenever possible we try to repair clothing before throwing it out. Personally I am pretty minimalist when it comes to buying clothes, typically buying new clothes only once to twice a year, or specifically as the need requires.

Continuing with my goals to not use single use plastics, and currently I dont think there are any in my home. The primary contributor in my life to single use plastics was typically drinks, and I have focused on purchasing drinks that come in cans so I can fully recycle them.

Climate & Ecosystems Join A Climate Action Orginization
What area of climate action are you most passionate about and why?

An area of climate action I'm passionate about is composting! I love and preach Project Oscar in Boston, which is a municipal program that makes composting accessible for everyone - even if you live in an apartment in the city without on-site access to green space. The best parts are how the program reduces landfill and food waste while also directly nourishing our local green spaces and parks - a win win!

My earth month ecochallenge 2022 is going great! As the name suggests, making changes can be challenging, however I like how the contest is made manageable with daily check-ins. Proud of my team and all participants for our commitment to make positive global change!

How do you create new sustainability-related habits or change bad habits?

For me, creating new sustainability-related habits was learning about ways I could apply it to my routine at home. I've been getting a lot better about getting rid of single use plastic beverage wise. I made sure to purchase a reusable water bottle to fill each day. For coffee, I purchased a glass carafe and I've been brewing my own iced coffee!

I have stopped using plastic straws and cups, and am very intentional about carrying my own tumbler and metallic straws to cafes. This took a while to get it into practice, but what worked for me was keeping a tumbler and straw always in my bag, so irrespective of where I'll be going, I have it handy.

It was an interesting experience to mend my own shoes. Normally, I would donate the old pair or have them relegated to my "yard work" shoes. After finding that the manufacturer sells new laces and insoles, I was able to clean, re-glue, and repair my own shoes. Saved money and material!
