I want to contribute less waste to the earth. I believe the world can be better that way.

I have been trying to take shorter showers, and I'm planning on moving out soon so that will significantly decrease my household water usage. This decreases it because I plan on practicing more environmentally ' sustainable activities. I already practice the 'Let it Mellow' rule, because it's just pee.

I volunteered for WARM (Westerville Area Resource Ministry) in the children’s nutrition department. It made me think about the growing food scarcity we are currently facing, but it was nice getting to make a kid happy. I plan on volunteering for them further on.

Health & Equity Support Indigenous & First Nations Communities
Why is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?

It is important to honor indigenous communities because they were on the land first and we destroyed their communities. I enjoyed learning about the conservation work indigenous communities lead, as I am very interested in the intersection of culture and conservation.

The Pandemic deflated many of our resources as well as our economy. It was mentioned that 7% of the global population will live in poverty and that 2.37 billion people are without food or unable to get proper nutrition. Our global population is over 7 billion right now, so that equals nearly 30% of our global population.

I'm realizing that my family is conscious of their energy usage. I live with my aunt and uncle (I use to live with my grandparents) and every lightbulb is of the eco kind, our house is well insulated and they are constantly doing improvements on it to make it livable and eco-friendly. We have a few solar panels that help power the lights in our greenhouse too.

I wasn't aware of the 'Granny Flats'. It's usually a small space built on the property of an existing home. This helps make multigenerational living easier!

Basic Needs & Security Know Your Produce
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

I was surprised that most of my produce was on the dirty dozen list. I love everything on the clean 15 list and have been trying to swap out my dirty dozen for the clean 15. Avocados are a must, so I'm happy to keep buying them.

I've meditated before. I use to be very consistent, but I felt like I never had enough time anymore. Picking it back up has helped me relax and stay focused longer. My work has improved since practicing and I can pay attention longer in class. I'm more engaged and my mind doesn't need constant entertainment. I don't find myself doom scrolling anymore. I try to meditate more outside to celebrate Earth month. This recent weather has made that a million times more easier--and more enjoyable!
