I was not able to organize my own lunch-and-learn but instead joined one for the city - Earth Week trivia. Working in teams I was surprised that teammates did not know about Superfund sites, DDT, John Muir, etc. I shared stories and background when they asked to understand.

We dont use much oil in cooking although I was intersted to learn how it is handled in my area. Based on my reading, used cooking oil should be taken to the hazardous waste drop-off where a separate receptacle is available. Unfortunately I had to dig to find this message - my neighbors may not be so willing to figure this out.

For Earth Day we spent time outside with the family enjoying the tulips and a gorgeous day.

Happy Earth Day! Happy to celebrate the diversity of our planet while enjoying the spring.

Local industrial development has put a major strain on regional water resrouces. Even though precipitation levels are up (with more localized flooidn), the local demand has nearly exceeded supply.

I spent some time researching renewalbe energy use in my area. My state has made a huge shift away from coal use toward natural gas and renewable power. Coal only accounts for 4% of electricity generation, although it is the largest coal exporter for the US.

I think we need more local dialog about water use. We have been hearing alot about the Energy Transition - which is important, of course - but also need to integrate our appreciation for and reliance on water.

I just found and activity in my neighborhood for tomorrow's Earth Day

I shared my Why? story at a community event this weekend, instead of preparing a video. It was wonderful to connect with neighbors on a deeper level.

Local Earth Day events this weekend included a screening of Anthropocene: The Human Epoch. It is a powerful film about our destruction of the planet - admittedly hard to watch but I think necessary.
