What a gorgeous morning! I went for a run & it was so zen. Birds chirping, sun shining, a slight breeze to keep me cool. I couldn’t ask for more! Heading to the lake today for some family time; we’re planning to kayak to the nearest island (Mallory), should be fun.

While working out this morning, I looked out my basement window to see a new robin nest under our deck. I could see the mother in there, likely keeping her eggs warm on such a chilly morning. I'm going to make sure our cat doesn't disrupt her or babies once born!

Why is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?

Although I am not a member of any indigenous group, I have always felt we need to honor them & their cultures. Simply put, they were here before we were. Also, they are much better stewards of this land & earth than we have been/are. I took a tour with the Navajo tribe during my trip to the southwest last fall and was amazed at various aspects of their lives, namely the importance they bestow upon everyone to respect the earth & its resources. We need to take a page (several really!) out of their book :)

I agree. What a cool thing you were able to do when you were seeing the west!

Last year, we spent half of October visiting a few National Parks in the southwest - Grand Canyon, Bryce & Zion. We also stayed a few days in Lake Powell; it was very sad to see the low level of water. It really is drying up out there, at an alarming rate. This year, we plan to visit a number of NYS parks. We're going to Niagara Falls this summer, and plan to visit a few while out there, and a couple on the way home. There are no shortage of parks in our neck of the woods that we will visit as we do every summer - Moreau, Grafton & Spa State Parks.

Today is Administrative Professionals' Day. We're celebrating by treating Nancy to lunch :) After all, she is the glue that holds our office together! It is also National Tell a Story Day. So tell me, what is your story?

What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

    Colleen Wise's avatar
    Colleen Wise 4/27/2022 5:38 AM
Once again, the COVID-19 pandemic is the linking factor. It has shortened life expectancy, violence against women has intensified and reversed progress towards income inequality. The pandemic has also increased children's' risk of exploitation such as trafficking & child labor, with the later seeing its first increase in two decades. It's deflating to think about all of the progress that has seemingly dissipated due to COVID. I sincerely hope we can change the trajectory for the sake of our future generations.

I volunteered for the Pilot Knob clean up event put out by our SEDI Office. I'm looking forward to it as a lover of LG, especially given our close family ties with nearby Camp Chingachgook! I hope the College makes it an annual event.

I had some time yesterday afternoon to sit on my deck in the sun & read for a while. What a wonderful time it was! It was great to relax with a good book (Life by Keith Richards - he's nutty!) and soak up some vitamin D. I hope these few chilly days of cloudy weather bring us more sunshine for the weekend.
