Gayathri's actions
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 10 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Basic Needs & Security
Feed Animals
It does not take more time for feeding animals/birds and leaving water for them in small container in our terrace. Like we struggle during summers, they also do.
Education & Livelihood
Research Impact Investing
SDG 8
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing or my current investment portfolio to determine if they align with my values.
Health & Equity
Advocate for Equitable Food Access
SDG 10
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for equitable food options at work, campus, or in the spaces I frequent by contacting community leaders and/or doing other advocacy actions.
Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Economy & Communities
Analyze Your Utility Bills
SDG 7
I spend 60 minutes analyzing my recent utility bills, which might include electricity, gas, or water to see what my current usage is and determine if I can reduce my energy and water use.
Health & Equity
Make Cleaning Products
SDG 3
I will make a few homemade cleaning products.
Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG 6
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Climate & Ecosystems
Watch a Documentary About Climate Change or Nature
SDG 13, 14, 15
I will watch 2 documentaries about climate change.
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG 8
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily breaks during work days to practice work-life balance.
Climate & Ecosystems
Drive Less
SDG 13
To reduce CO2 emissions each day, I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Practice MindfulnessWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Gayathri v 4/25/2023 3:32 AMPracticing mindfullness, lets us to think before every action. Be it using water, using tissues, using transporation, during cooking, while utilising renewable resources and what not! Every action we take does affect our nature, and practicing mindfulness gives us more awareness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & Equity Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Gayathri v 4/25/2023 3:30 AMWe get to think more about nature when we spend time outside. if we are on screen, the thought of conservation, endanger never comes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Gayathri v 4/25/2023 3:29 AMI'm travelling to office by car pooling, and if not choose public transport. I prefer private transportation only if there are no options left or if its untime. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less ShowersWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Gayathri v 4/25/2023 3:28 AMI'm also currently trying to save water that is left after vegetables, rice washing and saving them and watering it the plants at the end of day. And also i always make sure not to turn/rotate the taps at full capacity and use them only as required. -

Gayathri v 4/24/2023 4:30 AMI had made bio-enzyme, which can be used of multiple cleaning purposes and can also be used to water the plants by diluting it. The beauty is, it is so affordable and has only 3 ingredients. Jaggery/Brown Sugar, Citrus Peels, water in 1: 3: 10 ratio respectively -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & Ecosystems Watch a Documentary About Climate Change or NatureWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Gayathri v 4/24/2023 4:29 AMI had recently watched The Elephant Whisperers, the movie that got nominated for OSCARS. The documentary was taken over 5 years, collecting multiple stages of life of an elephant and its caretaker. Though it was short, it was the story of multiple years, and struggle and love of the care takers who had taken the responsibility very beautifully even going through their hardship.
