  • Reflection Question
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Cassandra Urban's avatar

Supermarkets are one of the leading contributors of having negative effects on our climate due to their refrigeration systems, which have high refrigerant charge leakage and high electricity consumption.
  • Reflection Question
    Industry Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Cassandra Urban's avatar
    Cassandra Urban 4/30/2021 10:05 AM
I address my feelings of concern about the climate change by trying to make a difference!  I try to do this by making changes in my daily habits; by educating myself; and, by informing and encouraging others!
  • Reflection Question
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Cassandra Urban's avatar
    Cassandra Urban 4/29/2021 12:50 PM
Other motivators  are:  they are cleaner vehicles; the cost savings between gas and electric; and they are also quieter.
  • Reflection Question
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

Well, it is the beginning of spring, so I have observed a lot of new growth.  Trees budding, dandelions in the grass, tulips and daffodils, etc.  Also, the birds are extremely happy that it is spring and are singing!  I would like to see sidewalks in my area to make it easier and safer to walk.
  • Reflection Question
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    Cassandra Urban 4/27/2021 9:05 AM
My tailor is woman owned business and I have shopped at a few women owned boutiques.  I could definitely do better in supporting women owned businesses by doing more research.  I can also spread the word to my fellow ladies, when I find a woman owned business that I like.  We need to have each other's back.

Not as successful as past ecochallenges.  I was off the week of April 12th and missed two days of log ins because they were past due.  So, even though I completed the actions for those two days, they couldn't be counted in.  But, I still enjoy doing these ecochallenges and look forward to them every year.

Did you know you can go into the system, click on the calendar and move the date back - and log that time? I do that on the weekends and vacations to keep me from having to log on to my computer when I'm not technically working.
  • Reflection Question
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?

    Cassandra Urban's avatar
    Cassandra Urban 4/21/2021 12:39 PM
I would rather spend this money towards continuing to remodel my house with eco friendly materials and energy efficient appliance and heating and cooling systems.  Also put it towards landscaping and gardening.

I remember the first time I saw the Canadian Rockies.  I felt so small and insignificant.  I think it was the first time that I realized how powerful,  beautiful, and magnificent mother nature is and that she deserves mankind's respect!

Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Cassandra Urban's avatar
    Cassandra Urban 4/07/2021 8:22 AM
There are many human activities that impact the health of our water systems, such as, over fishing, pollution with water sports, pollution with sewage dumping, chemical waste dumping, and that is just naming a few!  Ways to improve the health of our water systems are:  controlled fishing with limits, using bio-degradable products that are not dumped into our waters.  Controlling the amount of water sports on lakes and the dumping of fuel and sewage with hefty fines.  Limit building around the lake shores.  Just to name a few solutions.

I'm excited to get started, even though I saw snow when I woke up this morning!  That's ok, the birds were still chirping and singing.  It is spring, a time for new beginnings!
