Stay on the Ground

SDG 11

Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.

After learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?

We do investment for getting as much as return possible, but now after learning about impact investing my thought process is like definitely the investment should give us returns as well as it should give us increased positive impacts.

My favorite areas for impact investment are:
    1. Renewable Energy
    2. Sustainable Development
    3. Sustainable Agriculture

What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

While restructuring our trip and avoiding air travel requires careful planning and a willingness to make changes to your itinerary.

In future I will plan the journey well before the time to see all available options and make changes in the itinerary wherever possible.

    Dear friends,

Though the Earth Month Eco Challenge is ending today, this is not the end but a start of a new tomorrow where we can all continue to make conscious choices towards sustainability.

As individuals, we have the power to make a significant impact on our planet. By making small changes in our daily lives, we can go a long way in preserving our environment for future generations. Whether it is reducing our carbon footprint, conserving water, or minimizing waste, every little effort counts towards a sustainable future.

We can start by making simple changes like using a reusable water bottle, carrying a cloth bag for shopping, or opting for public transport or cycling instead of driving. We can also incorporate more plant-based meals into our diet, which not only benefits our health but also helps reduce our carbon footprint.

We can also support sustainable businesses and products that prioritize the environment and use eco-friendly materials and practices. By making responsible choices, we can encourage more businesses to adopt sustainable practices, leading to a positive impact on the environment.

Remember, we all have a role to play in protecting our planet. Let us continue to take on the Earth Month Eco Challenge and make sustainability a part of our everyday lives. Together, we can make a difference and create a better, more sustainable world for ourselves and future generations.

    Thank you.

I learned a lot about the 3 modules Sustainability, Carbon and Energy System.

The way and the speed at which we are going towards the Carbon emissions are really scary.

We should seriously think about taking every step possible to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate & Ecosystems Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

    Anup Tarone's avatar
    Anup Tarone 4/29/2023 4:47 AM
It's very to take care of pollinators important as we are going through a tough time (pollution, use of chemicals, reduction in natural habitat), and most of the human population doesn't know about this nearly invisible ecosystem service which has a very large impact on us and our daily needs. Most of the fruits, vegetables we eat are just because of these pollinators.

Yes I like many pollinators, but my favourite is "Honey Bees", because the honey we taste is just because of their miracle.

What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

    Anup Tarone's avatar
    Anup Tarone 4/26/2023 4:23 AM
There are a lot of implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens, some of which are listed as below:

    1. Zero or No Social Interactions - being inside makes you isolated person and reduce your social activities.
    2. Downgrading physical health
    3. Zero physical activities which is causing the physical illness, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and what not.
    4. Addition to screens - which is causing mental issues and also eyesight problems.
    5. Overload of information - causing issues to understand what information is correct and what is wrong or fake.

Economy & Communities Carry My Trash
What one thing will you do right away to reduce your waste? What is the second thing you will do?

    Anup Tarone's avatar
    Anup Tarone 4/26/2023 4:15 AM
One thing I have decided to use only reusable bags to reduce my waste right away.

Second thing is I will make a list of necessary items and also try to see if they can be replaced by reusable options. For eg. removing paper napkins and using only cloth napkins.
