  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Learn About Gender Diversity
Why is equity for gender diverse individuals important for a just and sustainable society?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/21/2022 4:55 AM
Equity across the board is important for a sustainable society. As far as  gender diverse individuals, many of these groups are experiencing the effects of climate change already and as climate change worsens these groups will continue to take on the more severe effects of climate change. Some of these effect are flooding, high heat days and water quality issues to name a few.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Learn About Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women and girl's equitable participation or representation in your community? Do you experience these barriers?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/20/2022 5:08 AM
Women are under represented when it comes to climate talks and what solutions are deemed effective from these groups. Women also generally have more roles in the household such as cooking and childcare, on top of their careers. This gives women less time to participate in this work. I have not experienced these barriers but understand and see the barriers within family and friends lives.
  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Learn About Equitable Food Access
How is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/18/2022 4:20 AM
A way food can be related to a sustainable future could be community gardens where residents that live in food desert could grow their own food.

Climate & Ecosystems Learn About Invasive Species
What is one invasive species in your region and how does it impact your region's ecosystem?

12 most common and high priority invasive species in Metorparks.
There are invasive plant pulls that you can register for in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Wow, I wasn't aware of Norway Maple. How interesting! It can be easy to forget that when we have native maple trees, there can be invasive varieties, too. Thanks for sharing this list!
  • Reflection Question
Climate & Ecosystems Support Local Pollinators
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/15/2022 5:28 AM
It is important to take care of pollinators so that we can continue to have so many diverse fruits and vegetables to eat and choose from. I am not sure if I have a favorite pollinator I think two of the most unique ones might be bats and frogs!
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
Who is affected by water insecurity in your region? How are they affected? How are you impacted by water insecurity?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/14/2022 4:35 AM
Water insecurity is a problem in Ohio when there are dangerous algal blooms like we saw in Toledo a few years. Toledo is Ohio's 4th largest city and had very limited access to clean drinking water during that time. Farming practices that aren't cautious about the use of chemicals and don't use riparian zones or ones that are large enough are a large portion of the problem. Protecting Lake Erie and all our great lakes should be a huge concern not only locally but nationally as well.
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Support A Renters Bills of Rights
What was something important you learned about renter rights and affordable housing?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/13/2022 4:19 AM
Affordable hosing is big issue right now, especially buying a home. I have been looking to buy a home for quite a while now. I also  know that renters rights vary greatly by local laws, in New York City renters have very little rights vs. other parts of the country like Washington D.C.
  • Reflection Question
    Economy & Communities Induction Cooking
Would you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/13/2022 4:05 AM
Yes I would consider an induction cooking surface, I have used on in the past. There are a few things that are nice about induction cooking one being that is kids or anyone touches the surface it isn't hot and can't hurt anyone.
  • Reflection Question
Basic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water Footprint
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/12/2022 4:13 AM
I will reduce my water footprint by eating even less meat, looking into other dog food options. A practice I already do that helps reduce water use is shopping second hand whenever possible.
  • Reflection Question
Education & Livelihood Share Your Eco Habits
How do you create new sustainability-related habits or change bad habits?

    Emily Szramowski's avatar
    Emily Szramowski 4/11/2022 5:04 AM
I think that creating new habits and changing bad habits are both very challenging. I think awareness and do the best you can every day and better each day if possibly is all you can aim for!
