Lily Schaefer 4/30/2023 5:29 PMToday is the last day of the Eco Challenge, and the last day of Earth Month! While I did not complete every task on my bucket list for the month, I was quite consistent with my daily tasks. I believe every action we take to help our planet is important, even if it seems small. Just helping to educate ourselves, each other, and others is important work! Thank you all for participating, and helping us enrich our community with sustainable habits. I hope you found the experience fulfilling!! -
Lily Schaefer 4/17/2023 6:43 PMToday my trash has consisted of a package of pasta I cooked for dinner (mushroom tortelloni), some tissues, a plastic cup in which I made a drink at work because I forgot I brought my keep cup, and a parking ticket :( My mom has let me borrow her car for the next couple of weeks so I can drive myself home once the semester ends. But still a small load of trash for the day! -
Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Try a New Vegan or Vegetarian RecipeWhat was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!
Lily Schaefer 4/17/2023 9:49 AMMy mom has recently started a free trial of Hello Fresh, and one of the meals she got in her box was a sun dried tomato pasta dish. It had spaghetti noodles, with sun dried tomatoes, grape tomatoes, parsley, almonds, and cream cheese in the sauce! It was delicious. We ate it alongside roasted peppers and onions, one of my favorite side dishes. Hopefully the image loads!-

Lily Schaefer 4/17/2023 9:41 AMHowdy Everyone! I haven't checked in since Thursday, where I happened to win a first place award at the student research expo on a sustainability project I am doing for class! I went home for the weekend and was focusing my energy on spending time with family. I didn't open my computer once! But I assure you I still completed my daily goals :) I had very little trash this weekend because I didn't eat out at all or do much in general. I spent lots of time outside relaxing, helping my Grandma in her garden, walking, reading. It was a lovely weekend. I am now back to Athens and ready to start a busy week!-
Rita Haider 4/18/2023 1:41 PMThat sounds like a wonderful weekend. So glad you could help your grandmother in her garden.
Congratulations again on your winning project! -

Lily Schaefer 4/13/2023 5:41 PMMy afternoon class was canceled today so I spent the afternoon on the porch of my boyfriend's house chatting, crafting, and listening to music! It was a lovely and relaxing afternoon and I definitely enjoyed the outside today.-
Rita Haider 4/15/2023 10:43 AMI am certain you needed that after your stressful, but very rewarding, Thursday! You should post your photo for the team to see.

Lily Schaefer 4/13/2023 5:39 PMI had SO MUCH trash today after cleaning out my room and the kitchen as I will be going home for the weekend - plastic bags from mail packages, cardboard boxes, food packages, empty bottles, tags off of new clothes, ... but the good news is I believe everything is recyclable! -
Lily Schaefer 4/11/2023 6:08 PMToday was another lovely spring day! I spend many hours outside working on school work and other miscellaneous tasks. I carried around my trash as usual - only a plastic salad container, plastic fork, and qtips. I am getting better at remembering to bring my keep cup everywhere! -
Lily Schaefer 4/10/2023 6:57 PMSpent more hours in my hammock today, reading and thinking and resting, and it was lovely! My trash today consisted of a gum wrapper, a paper bag and fast food wrapper, and some napkins. Not too bad! -
Reflection QuestionClimate & Ecosystems Calculate Your Carbon ImpactWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Lily Schaefer 4/09/2023 4:05 PMEating a vegetarian diet reduces my carbon footprint a lot, but I am always looking for ways to do so more. I used the climate hero website to calculate my carbon impact and it gave me some solutions. For one, I can be more conscious when I buy things, emphasizing the impact of second-hand and local. And, I am going to try to limit dairy products, but that might be a little difficult for me. -
Lily Schaefer 4/09/2023 10:17 AMHappy Easter to those who celebrate! What a beautiful spring day we have. Today I planted this pollinator wildflower seed mix in a mulched bed behind my apartment! I don't know if I am allowed to do so but I figured it wouldn't hurt anybody. Hopefully some wildflowers will pop up soon! I have spent a few hours relaxing in my hammock outside enjoying the sun and the birds. I plan to go on a walk as well. Hoping everyone gets to enjoy spring today!-
Rita Haider 4/09/2023 8:57 PMThank you Lily, it was a beautiful day and I managed to get out twice for long walks. It helps that I am watching my friends dog for a few days. That sort of makes me get out and we both like the walks in this beautiful weather.
