  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity Practice Mindfulness
What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/26/2023 7:15 AM
Practicing mindfulness is something that has now become an easy task. Now that i have implemented more sustainable options and become more aware of my footprint, i have been more conscious of what i consumer, how i consume it, and how my actions contribute to the earth. Something that is new that i learned is that we can be sustainable in every aspect of our lives and by doing this we will also achieve healthier lives
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/26/2023 7:13 AM
I recently got a filtered water tap-- so by using this instead of plastic water bottles will help me reduce my water footprint as well as be more sustainable with my water consumption habits.

Love this! I have my waterbottle glued to my side all the time now!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Climate & Ecosystems Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
What was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/21/2023 1:10 PM
Today for earth day we cleaned up gifford park. I had an overall good experience and we cleaned up 200lbs of trash. I think the most suprising thing was the confetti that was everywhere. Seems like someone had a party and decided not to clean up after themselves, which left hundreds of confetti all over the ground and definitely isn't good for the environment at all.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Calculate Your Water Footprint
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/19/2023 6:09 AM
I will reduce my water use with 5 minute or less showers and not letting the water run in the morning while brushing teeth/doing morning routine. I have already started trying to do 5 minute or less showers and that has been successful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity Donate Food
Why do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/13/2023 6:28 AM
Donating food is not something that we all should do, but it is something that we need to do, collectively. If you or your family do not struggle to put food on the table for every meal, then you are able to go into your pantry and gather the unused items or to add extra items in the grocery cart to donate. We are all capable of helping others in need and it is something that we all need to do. This not only impacts sustainability, but it connects to your own values as an individual in this society. It's important to give back and it's important to help those in need if you are able.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Education & Livelihood Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/06/2023 6:16 AM
Our options for our weekend trip was to fly or drive. Not only was flying more expensive, but it would be a short flight. So, we decided that a road trip to Wisconsin would be the most cost effective, sustainable, and fun :) To avoid air travel in the future, i can carefully plan out my trips. Having buddies to road trip with is always fun and it is also more cost effective!

I love roadtrips! There is so much more to see on the ground than in the air anyway. I agree with all of your points!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Make Zero-Waste Meals
How did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/03/2023 10:02 AM
I made a soup called Zuppa Toscana. A spin off from Olive Garden's! It was really simple and I was able to use potato skin scraps, celery stalks, and left over chicken stock that I had! It was delicious and I highly recomment trying Half Bake Harvet's recipe :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Basic Needs & Security Know Your Produce
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

    Emmalee Ramon's avatar
    Emmalee Ramon 4/03/2023 10:00 AM
These lists didn't surprise me. I have been researching the foods I put into my body for some time now and I have been extra conscious of foods I buy at the store. I have used these lists before and have been implementing buying organic whole foods. By doing this, I have also began to cook more meals at home because I know exactly what I am consuming.
