Meet my dog and partner in Earth Month Explore My Area challenge, she is always happy to come with me and walk in the various parks, streets, woods, hills, wherever I take her. Yesterday we went to Fota Arboretum (Cobh, Co Cork, Ireland) to see all the blooming trees and bushes there.
There is no challenge or action that would refer to reducing the use of single-use plastic but it is one of my pet hates for long. Especially large bottles of soft drinks - they are now mostly eliminated in our house. In our household there is a Sodastream machine with a strong, durable plastic container that is the same age as the machine (about 2 years now). Unfortunately the squash still comes in single-use plastic bottle (although we sometimes manage to buy them with glass bottles which are then returned to a glass recycling collection point). Still, with the dilution, it is much less plastic use than before.
I am inspired by your example. We are thinking about that in our house. And it is on me to look how to do it/ what water filtering option is the best one to have proper quality water (with all the minerals) yet stop using the pet bottles. That would also reduce the carbon footprint as the bottled watter uses car transportation to have it distributed. I feel likr it is a time now to get into that task
