  • Reflection Question
Education & Livelihood Research Impact Investing
After learning more about investing, how can you increase positive impacts and decrease negative impacts?

    Sam Mulholland 4/30/2022 12:01 PM
I can increase positive impacts by investing in companies/funds that align with my values, socially and morally. In the long run the financial value is the same so I might as well invest aligned with my values
  • Reflection Question
Economy & Communities Find out where your energy comes from
Where does the energy in your region come from? Which energy is a renewable source?

I learned that up until 2021, approximately 25% of NYC power came from a nuclear power plant near Peekskill, NY. That power plant has now been shut down and replaced by 3 natural gas powered power plants... shame

There are many things you can do but one of my favorites is volunteering at the local community garden. Able to compost, reducing the amount of waste ending up in landfills. Also they grow food locally which then is distributed among the residents, reducing the amount of factory farm produced, highly processed and transported food from the grocery stores.

Though the linked websites didnt have data on my area specifically, I learned that flooding is the biggest risk. Flooding causes $100 billion in damage every year.. Thought it was interesting that this issue is primarily getting worse because more people are moving toward the coasts.

The European Starling. There are an estimated 200 million European starlings across the United States now all stemming from one man releasing 100 of them in Central Park in the 1890s. This man's love of Shakespeare has inadvertently introduced competition to native species and increased destruction of native crops.
