  • Reflection Question
Health & Equity Support Indigenous & First Nations Communities
Why is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?

Indigenous peoples and cultures are part of the fabric of where we live, and honoring that can have a positive impact on who we are as a collective society.

Income inequality appears to be a linking factor across this group of SDGs.

How is food equity and access linked to a sustainable future?

Supporting more "farm-to-table" local producers reduces need for more damaging large scale farming practices, and increases the amount of healthy foods available to the populations in those areas.

Health & Equity Safe Disposal of Medications and Household Chemicals
Do you have any tips for others on finding locations that accept products for safe disposal?

Please take proper disposal of medications seriously.  Some, like antibiotics, should not be flushed.

Division of everyday household work after retirement still seems commonly unbalanced, with majority of work between a married couple being on the woman.

What are the climate and disaster risks in your region?

Well, we do still have an active volcano in our backyard that many in this area remember the disasters it created in 1980.  Today's threats are mostly flooding.  We've had both lanes of I-5 close twice in the last decade in Chehalis, & there are sections of the coastline that are tsunami zones.
  • Reflection Question
    Economy & Communities Mend Clothing
What was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

    Ray Moore's avatar
    Ray Moore 4/18/2022 9:12 AM
In the last month, I've repaired a button on my shirt, a rivet on the cuff of my wife's shirt (both successfully), and made a zipper worse on one of my "grubby" coats.  Still needing to figure out the last one.  Recommendation for others is to treat mending as puzzle to be solved, with creative solutions being OK.
  • Reflection Question
    Economy & Communities Induction Cooking
Would you consider using an induction cooking surface? If you have used one before, what do you like about induction cooking?

Considered, but I still don't know anyone that has committed to one, so didn't pursue last time a new range was needed.  I would prefer to use one before investing, and not needing to buy an oven at this time.

Suggest getting one of the single-eye ones to play with...you'll need pans with conductive material in them (stick a magnet on the bottom to check it).  It's definitely the future, I say.  :)

Not sure I agree with all, but linking factor appears to be that primary energy resources can vary significantly globally.  Over 750 million people don't have access to electricity, and 75% of those live on the African continent.
