Ashley Miller 4/07/2022 12:43 PMI started these challenges on Monday and not even one week in I already feel like I'm actively looking for other small factors I can start changing that will cause a positive ripple effect. -
Reflection QuestionClimate & Ecosystems Reduce Single-Use PlasticsWhat plastic or single-use items do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted?
Ashley Miller 4/06/2022 5:58 AMI bring my large Yeti that I fill with water so that I'm not grabbing a plastic cup each time. I understand the need for single use coffee creamers, but hope that one day Deloitte will provide more sustainable options that are both eco-friendly and still sanitary. -
Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Know Your ProduceWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Ashley Miller 4/06/2022 5:55 AMI've heard of the dirty dozen before but didn't realize that celery was a culprit! I use celery often in my cooking so I will be switching to organic. I knew strawberries were a main one with pesticides, but surprised by some of the others too. -
Ashley Miller 4/06/2022 5:52 AMI try to be mindful of a lot of these issues however I have already learned so much in the past few days. From chemicals in our "healthy foods" to not so great ingredients in personal items (my facewash, laundry detergent, etc.), I am opting for smarter choices. -
Reflection QuestionBasic Needs & Security Make Zero-Waste MealsHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Ashley Miller 4/05/2022 8:50 AMLast night I made beef and broccoli in the crock pot so dinner will be ready for tonight. I usually would toss the ends of the broccoli since they are tougher, but added them to the meal since the cooking time would allow for them to get softened. (Haven't tasted it yet but it smelled great!) I also have the skins from my onion in a freezer bag that I save and add my scraps to and will eventually make stock. -
Reflection QuestionHealth & Equity Practice MindfulnessWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Ashley Miller 4/04/2022 5:32 AMI took the time to start my day of by setting intentions, and breathing. I also said a few things I was thankful for while breathing.
